Center Theatre Group's Robert Egan will direct Jon Robin Baitz's "Other Desert Cities" at the Mark Taper Forum. The play that received a 2012 Tony nomination for Best Play will be presented in its West Coast premiere at the Taper and will close out the Taper's 45th season at the Los Angeles Music Center. The presentation of "Other Desert Cities" runs November 28, 2012, through January 6, 2013, with the opening set for December 9. The box office opened yesterday for the Broadway revival of GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on Tuesday, September 18th at 10am. GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS will begin its limited run with previews on Tuesday, October 16th and an official opening on Sunday, November 11. Bradshaw Smith died on January 16, 2012, at age 57, following a sudden and severe stroke. To conclude the intimate memorial, Bradshaw's longtime friend and editor, Jonathan Frank, compiled the best of Bradshaw's work as a video artist. Today in 1915, The Merchant of Venice opened at the 44th Street Theatre. A tragic comedy by William Shakespeare, the play believed to have been written between 1596 and 1598. The title character is the merchant Antonio, not the Jewish moneylender Shylock, who is the play's most prominent and most famous character. This is made explicit by the title page of the first quarto: The mo?t excellent Hi?torie of the Merchant of Venice. The play was recenlty brought to Broadway in 2010 after a successful run at Shakespeare in the Park with Al Pacino and Lily Rabe.
