Royal City Musical Theatre has announced it will present SHREK THE MUSICAL, a stage adaptation of the beloved animated film. The production is set to open in April.

The Firehall Arts Centre will produce and present the world premiere of Tracey Power's House of Folk: A Lost Canadian Folk Show from Saturday, February 14 to Sunday, March 8, 2026. 

The Firehall Arts Centre’s 43rd anniversary season features Canadian-created theatre and dance, including three world premieres, the Western Canadian premiere of Between Breaths, and the Great Canadian Play-Reading Mini-Series.

SCHOOL OF ROCK was a fun musical to watch, perfect for a family night out to enjoy theatre. The show’s entertainment value was high leaving a lasting impression on the audience members in attendance. A crowd favourite when it premiered here at The Firehall in 2012 followed by a successful Canadian tour, Chelsea Hotel: The Songs of Leonard Cohen returns this winter from Saturday, February 3 to Sunday, March 3, 2024.

This year, Theatre Under the Stars will be playing 2 shows over the course of the summer, one of them being the Broadway musical, THE PROM. THE PROM opened on Tuesday July 11th and will play at Vancouver’s Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park until August 25th alternating nights with Theatre Under the Star’s other musical: MATILDA.

Gateway Theatre will present the critically-acclaimed musical Hey Viola! on the Mainstage Theatre April 13 to 22.

Gateway Theatre has announced the continuation of in-person artistic offerings alongside audio plays through the remainder of their 2022-2023 season.

The Anvil Theatre will bring back to the stage, Hey Viola!, a musical exploration of Canadian Civil Rights hero, Viola Desmond from March 16 – 27.   Set in a cabaret style, this show could not be more relevant in this time of Civil Rights, Black Lives Matter, and Women’s Rights movements.

This month, HEY VIOLA! Viola Desmond: The Soundtrack of a Life plays from October 15 – 25 at the Anvil Centre in New Westminster. After interviewing star, Krystle Dos Santos in September, it was a pleasure to see her take the stage playing Canadian Hero: Viola Desmond in the show. Viola Desmond was a Canadian civil rights activist and entrepreneur. In 1946, Desmond fought against racial segregation as she refused to leave the “Whites only” section of a movie theatre in Nova Scotia. Desmond was arrested and charged with tax evasion. Her experience was publicized and sparked a movement amongst Canadians against racial discrimination. Viola Desmond is currently featured on the Canadian ten-dollar bill and her story will remain important to Canadian history, as racial injustices are still an ongoing issue we face today.

Returning from a long period of dormancy, theatre makes a comeback in Vancouver: better and safer than ever! At the Anvil Centre, the show: HEY VIOLA! Viola Desmond a?' the Soundtrack of a Life plays from October 15th to 25th. This production follows the life of Canadian civil rights activist: Viola Desmond highlighting her fight against racial injustice in Nova Scotia. Starring Krystle Dos Santos (Co-Creator) as Viola and direction by Tracey Power (Co-Creator), HEY VIOLA also incorporates 15 songs from Desmonda??s era. With musical accompaniment from local musicians Steven Charles (guitar/bass), Chris Davis (trumpet, drums, and piano), and Mary Ancheta (keyboard), Dos Santos will sing the night away while telling the story of a woman who sparked a movement across Canada. Audiences will be enchanted this year as Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) presents Disney's Beauty and the Beast and Hello, Dolly! on alternate evenings July 4-August 29, 2020, at Stanley Park's Malkin Bowl. Celebrating a milestone 80 years in Stanley Park, TUTS has become a summer mainstay of Vancouver cultural calendars since it was established in 1940.
