My favorite show of the week came from the Downtown Playmakers Project at The Arkansas Repertory Theatre in Little Rock Saturday, February 7. What made this show so special?

If you think Macbeth is all doom, gloom, and high school English class trauma, Bard at the Bar is here to gleefully prove you wrong. Presented by Actors Theatre of Little Rock at Fassler Hall in Little Rock Thursday, January 15, and directed by Emily Swenskie, this abridged and laugh-out-loud funny take on Shakespeare’s Scottish tragedy became a fast-paced, clever, and wildly entertaining night out that had the audience laughing almost nonstop.

To close out the holiday season, the Argenta Contemporary Theatre in North Little Rock presents A CHRISTMAS STORY THE MUSICAL now through December 22, to a sold-out crowd, and rightfully so. The talent level for this production is through the roof, with a cast that brings extraordinary energy and charm to this timeless holiday tale. My adoration grows and grows with each visit, and I am continually impressed by the magic this theatre creates.

Capturing our hearts once again, the Argenta Contemporary Theatre in North Little Rock presents Lerner and Loewe’s MY FAIR LADY, a theatrical masterpiece that celebrates resilience, personal growth, and the power of language, running through Saturday, Oct. 19. Directed by the amazing Vincent Insalaco, this Pygmalion adaptation gets a girl power face lift that has you cheering for her transformation in order to gain a better life.

One of the things I love about the Actors Theatre of Little Rock is that they aren’t afraid to address the serious topics. During their short time of existence, they have covered race, sexuality, murder, the supernatural, Shakespeare, just to name a few.

What did our critic think of GODSPELL at Argenta Community Theatre? With Music and New Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, Direction by Vincent Insalaco and Music Direction by the amazing Bob Bidewell, this collective group of artists brings a powerful story to the stage through song, dance, and dramady that will sear onto your Christian heart and ignite the passion to sustain you throughout the rest of Lent.
