Summertime is approaching, and it may not be safe to go back in the water. No, not because of algae blooms or the occasional Lake Erie shark rumor (seriously, look it up), but because “Bruce,” the infamous mechanical shark from Jaws, has resurfaced at The Toledo Repertoire Theatre.

“THE SHARK IS BROKEN' will take the stage at the Toledo Repertoire Theatre from April 24 through May 3, 2026. Co-written by Ian Shaw and Joseph Nixon, this witty and insightful comedy-drama explores the behind-the-scenes tensions during the filming of the iconic 1975 film Jaws.

FADE IN: The open ocean, 1974. Filming is delayed...again. The lead actors- theatre and film vet Robert Shaw and up-and-coming Hollywood hotshots Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider- are crammed into a too-small boat, entirely at the mercy of foul weather and a faulty mechanical star. Alcohol flows, egos collide, and tempers flare on a chaotic voyage that just might lead to cinematic magic... if it doesn’t sink them all... Twisted, a new play written by Chris DiGiovanni, directed by Marc Antonio Pritchett, and produced by Garry M. Kluger for the Theatre West Writers-in-Residence program will open next month.
