Last night at 54 Below, we all got to witness what can happen when all things align. The musical choices were an Easter basket of “goodies” – and, then, a surprise visit from TONY winner Alice Ripley? Yes, it was that kind of night.
What happened over the seven consecutive shows, was indeed a Christmas miracle. There was plenty of laughter and tears, and intimate interaction with the audiences. It is simply the “must-see” holiday event of the season.
Norm Lewis brought his signature charisma and warmth to 54 Below in a performance that left the audience thoroughly enchanted. This show was a true gift, one that will undoubtedly be remembered by everyone lucky enough to witness it!
Norm Lewis kicked off THE BEST OF CHRISTMAS, running nightly through 12/24, on 12/18. In addition to a lovely show, Norm’s opening night was a benefit that also aided 54 Below’s Ticket Subsidy program.
There are galas and there are galas and, then, there was what Black Theatre United pulled off last night, September 30th, celebrating GENERATIONS OF EXCELLENCE at the Ziegfeld Ballroom. On May 21 of this year, BroadwayWorld threw a big party at Sony Hall in the heart of the theatre district, celebrating our 20th anniversary year online and in the community. It's an evening that I won't soon forget, and it all benefitted our longtime friends and collaborators at Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. And the venue itself, Sony Hall, couldn't have been nicer to us or more cooperative.

As I woke this morning in a hotel room in the heart of Manhattan, I somehow felt that I was waking up in a land of another time and space. The one single word that I can form in my head and heart is 'gratitude.'

Prediction: for the next few days, everyone will be talking about Hugh Panaro and his mesmerizing solo concert debut here in New York City, at 54 Below. What took so long? Who Knows. But that doesn’t matter anymore because his two-day run on October 5th and 6th is totally sold out, which means he’ll be back and, surely, be exporting this all over the country, to London, Canada, and Australia, where audiences love exactly what he is giving them- BROADWAY, and plenty of it, but through the singular lens of his career.
Anyone who lives in New York City, or visits (people from South London and Scotland were in the house) knows that the hottest spot on a Tuesday night is Susie Mosher’s “The LINEUP” at the Birdland Theater, downstairs of the legendary Birdland Jazz Club. I must also share with you that the staff are wonderful, as are the cocktails, service and food menu.
