BWW Review: LONE STAR is a Disjointed Country Concert and Play Rolled into One

Ruth Stage and the 13th Street Reparatory Company's Lone Star feels like seeing two shows in one evening. This revival of James McLure's play consists of a mock country concert by the all-female band The Chalks in the first act with the action of the play occurring in the second act. The entire thing is directed by Joe John Battista, but it feels like two separate pieces rather than one coherent and connected show. While The Chalks are an entertaining and talented group, the play itself leaves much to be desired.

'Devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.' This is just one of many life lessons that Morrie Schwartz teaches to Mitch Albom throughout Tuesdays With Morrie, a thought-provoking play about how to live a truly rich life. TK & The Holy Know-Nothings Album Stream Out Today

American Songwriter has the full stream of TK & The Holy Know Nothings' Arguably OK ahead of its release on Mama Bird Recording Co. this Friday. The songs on Arguably OK are about dead ends, addiction, self-sabotaged relationships, drug trips gone bad (or good? or both?), and, above all, holding out for the real thing. Taylor Kingman's lyrics are tightly crafted and profoundly paradoxical; simultaneously self-deprecating and unapologetic, clever and crass, irreverent and tender; and sometimes riotously funny. Each song takes you somewhere unexpected, every phrase crafted with the same signature combination of dirtbag revelry and haltingly poignant poetry.
