Barnum will be closing out Southgate Community Players Main Stage productions for the 2018-2019 season. Opening this weekend on Friday, May 3rd, this spectacular spectacle brings to life the story of P. T. Barnum the stage at the Davidson Auditorium inside Davidson Middle School in Southgate. Beloved characters based on the real-life performers that Barnum worked with during his career are woven throughout this high-energy musical. SCP's production of Barnum is packed with skills and tricks that will awe audiences of all ages! At the April 15, 2019 Mesa City Council meeting, Mayor John Giles presented a proclamation honoring the 25th Anniversary Season of the Sonoran Desert Chorale to Founding Director, Jeff Harris. The Council declared Saturday, May 4 to be celebrated as Sonoran Desert Chorale Day in Mesa. In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Harris spoke of the Chorale's long association with the City and its residents. The City was instrumental in supporting the Chorale in its early days.

Auditions for membership in the Sonoran Desert Chorale will take place onThursday evening, May 16, 2019 at First United Methodist Church, 15 E First Ave, Mesa. Auditions will be scheduled by appointment.

As a capstone for its celebration of 25 years in song, the Chorale shares a tribute to songs of the heart - 'If music be the food of love, Sing On.' Sing On performances will take place Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 7:30 P.M. at First United Methodist Church, 15 E. First Avenue, Mesa and Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 3:00 P.M. at La Casa De Cristo Lutheran Church, 6300 E. Bell Road, Scottsdale. 

Whenever one of my US friends asks me about a successful German musical, it is for sure "Dance of the Vampires" that comes immediately to my mind. It was Jim Steinman (music) and Michael Kunze (lyrics) created the musical adaption of Roman Polanski's film from 1967. The show premiered in 1997, and has been running - with some short breaks - in Germany and Austria ever since.

As I'm going through all my Gypsy CDs (yes, to ensure I have them all either on my hard drive or accessible in the cloud, before throwing them out), I'm finding myself weirdly most drawn to Tyne Daly's recording, from her Tony-winning performance in the 1989 revival. The thing is I know Tyne Daly, I mean I know her work. She's been a familiar and distinctive presence on stage and screen for as long as I can remember and I even have a few musical theater recordings featuring her singing, but hers is not a singing voice I live with on a LITERALLY daily basis like, say, Ethel Merman's, Angela Lansbury's, Bette Midler's, Bernadette Peters's or Patti LuPone's. So to me, Tyne Daly's Rose is a unique sound that I can only identify with Tyne Daly's Rose and, therefore, a character. For today, that's the Gypsy I most feel like listening to.

This weekend, Michael Crawford made a surprise appearance at the Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts' production of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA in Orange County, California. After watching the performance, Crawford appeared on-stage and met with the students to congratulate the cast, orchestra, crew and production team.

The Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts (APA) will be presenting seven performances of 'The Phantom of the Opera' from March 15-17 and 21-24 in the Historic Huntington Beach Union High School District Auditorium.

Pop Star, Chris Mann, will debut his 4th studio album, NOISE, in concert on Thursday, March 28th, 2019 at the Peppermint Club in West Hollywood, CA. The highly anticipated album, NOISE, will be released as individual singles each month available on Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music and across all digital streaming platforms. Mann wanted to “make noise” year round and felt this new release model would allow him to better and more deeply engage with his fans, allowing each song to resonate fully in its on way. “Gentleman,” the album's first single, was co-written by Mann, Cameron Forbes (3X Platinum, #1 smash single “Taste” by Tyga), and Willy Beaman (Greyson Chance, Nico & Vinz). The feel-good single sets the tone for the album with a bass-filled urban swagger topped with vintage horns and soulful, falsetto melodies harkening the best of Justin Timberlake and John Legend. NOISE also features a special guest vocal from one of Mann's own idols, 4 time Grammy award winning superstar, India.Arie.

The Tony Award-winning Falsettos is on the move after its phenomenally successful Broadway revival. After winning two Tonys in its original run, it was nominated for five more in 2017, including Best Revival of a Musical. Leading the talented pack is Max von Essen as Marvin, the married dad turned gay man who learns to navigate his new roles and relationships. Von Essen is, perhaps, best known for his Tony-nominated role as Henri Baurel in An American in Paris. He is also a successful film actor and solo recording artist. Fresh off of a run on Broadway as Greb Vaganov in Anastasia, he agreed to speak with BroadwayWorld Sacramento about his upcoming album release, past roles, and what we can expect from Falsettos.
