Legendary actor, activist and philanthropist Ed Asner passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, surrounded by family at 91.

The Group Rep is presenting Finding My Light, a new one-woman show written and starring Barbara Brownell, directed and developed by Jessica Lynn Johnson. The fundraiser is produced by Neil Thompson for the Group Rep.

ELECTRICITY, the highly acclaimed comedy-drama by Terry Ray, starring Ray and Mel England continues a record breaking 3-year run that was only ended by the Pandemic. However the 'end' was only a pause as ELECTRICITY returns every Tuesday night to the stage at the Cabaret Theater at Oscars Cafe & Bar starting September 7th at 7pm!

Paula Poundstone, whose razor-sharp improv skills have delighted comedy audiences for nearly 40 years, brings her acclaimed one-woman show to the A.J. Fletcher Opera Theater at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts on October 21.

Flat Rock Playhouse is bringing back the mainstage in an iconic way! Television veterans, Ed Asner of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and Jamie Farr of M*A*S*H will star in the staged reading of Two Jews, Talking at Flat Rock Playhouse. 

Theatre 40 will be presenting a staged reading of Gary Kaskel’s ANOTHER GIN GAME starring Ed Asner and Ruta Lee with Donté Ashon Green July 18, 2021. I have the delightful pleasure of talking to Ed, not only on ANOTHER GIN GAME, but on highlights of his incredibly long-lasting acting career. When I tried to thank him for all the previous times he’s graciously posed for my camera and chatted with me at various charity events, he playfully deflected with, “But I’m a son of a bitch now!”

42nd Street Moon is concluding its online Moonbeams series on a rather deliciously demented high note with Don’t Touch That Dial: DC & Peter’s Glorious Romp through the Golden Age of TV Theme Songs. Just like the timeworn sitcoms that generated most of its songs, Don’t Touch That Dial wants nothing more than to entertain, packing in dozens of catchy tunes you maybe didn’t even know you knew in a fast-moving hourlong fantasia of fizzy humor and gimlet-eyed nostalgia. Although Moon’s remit is normally to revisit stage musicals, rather than television shows, this enterprise isn’t quite as far afield for them as you might imagine. It, too, comes wrapped in affectionate homage to times past.

I’m not sure if Farah Alvin intended it, but her show is not only about the music of the ’70s. It is also about all kinds of out-of-control love. The sort of obsessive passion that fueled the cynical Watergate decade. The music was theatrical. This makes it a perfect fit for Farah Alvin’s considerable acting skills.

The 23rd annual Broadway Barks and 2nd Broadway Barks Across America is set to stream on Sunday, May 23rdat7:00 pm EDT on Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS' Facebook and YouTube pages.

Broadway Barks will once again stream its annual animal adoption event on Sunday, May 23rd at 7:00 p.m. EDT. The streamed event, hosted by co-founder Bernadette Peters will feature adoptable animals from shelters and presented by celebrities Across America.

BROADWAY BARKS will once again take their dog and cat adoption event ‘Across America’ for their second virtual installment and 23rd annual on Sunday, May 23rd at 7:00pm EDT. The streamed event will be hosted by the organization’s co-founder Bernadette Peters.

Ed Asner, the most honored male performer in the history of the Primetime Emmy Awards, will still visit The Sauk, but audiences will have to wait until October. Asner will bring his one-man show A Man and His Prostate to the Jonesville venue for two performances, October 28 and 29 at 7:30 p.m.

Broadway has lost a marketing genius. David Risley, age 53, passed away on February 2nd, 2021.  Risley had been working in the Internet arena for over twenty years developing websites and on-line marketing strategies for hundreds of theatrical projects.

Marilyn Joan Roberts, actress, and one of the original performers in the Off-Off Broadway theater movement in New York City during the 1960’s, passed away in January.

BroadwayWorld is saddened to learn of the passing of entertainment legend Cloris Leachman. Leachman, an Oscar winner and multiple Emmy winner, died of natural causes at the age of 94.
