Emmy Award-winning actress and writer Renée Taylor - known to millions as Fran Fine's food obsessed mother, Sylvia, on 'The Nanny' - opened November 22nd to unanimous rave reviews in her comedy smash MY LIFE ON A DIET at George Street Playhouse. Called 'fascinating, lighthearted and spicy' by The New York Times, MY LIFE ON A DIET, an autobiographical comedy written by Ms. Taylor and her late husband Joseph Bologna, had an enormously successful run last season Off-Broadway under the direction of Mr. Bologna.

The follow-up to 2017's “The Young Pope” from Oscar®-winning filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino, THE NEW POPE, debuting MONDAY, JAN. 13 (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET/PT),  dives into the inner workings of the Vatican, while exploring the very human desires, vices and fragilities of those in power and the complexities inherent in faith today. All nine episodes of THE NEW POPE are directed by Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino. The series is written by Sorrentino with Umberto Contarello and Stefano Bises, and marks Sorrentino's second series set in the world of the modern papacy.

Full casting has been confirmed for Once ahead of its run at the King's theatre, Glasgow next summer.

Court Theatre, under the continuing leadership of Charles Newell, Marilyn F. Vitale Artistic Director, and Angel Ysaguirre, Executive Director, continues its 2019/20 season with The Mousetrap by Agatha Christie, directed by Sean Graney. The Mousetrap runs January 16, 2020 - February 16, 2020 at Court Theatre, 5535 S. Ellis Ave. The press opening is Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 7:30pm.

Lee Blessing's latest play For the Loyal receives its West Coast premiere at Sixry-six Theatre Co. With a cast of five stellar actors and directed ingeniously by artistic director Paul Rush, For the Loyal is set in a midwest University town where the football coach comes under scrutiny for molesting a young boy. The play is intelligent, immensely thought provoking and should be a big draw for audience who love gritty, humanely penetrating theatre.

Alternative rock band The Picturebooks announce a handful of headline tour dates in the U.S. this winter. The band will be hitting the road for their headline shows starting January 2nd in San Diego, CA before hitting the road with British Lion on January 18th. Tickets are available for purchase HERE.

Based on the classic novel by S.E. Hinton which she started writing at the age of 15 in 1965 and published in 1967, The Outsiders is a coming of age novel about the conflict between two rival gangs: The Greasers and The Socs (Short for Socials). The book is written in the first person as told by Ponyboy Curtis. The play does try to stick to that also by having Ponyboy narrate numerous parts. The Play was first published in 1990 and I hear there is a musical adaptation in the works.

Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre rings in the holidays with the stage adaptation of the popular movie, A Christmas Story: The Musical. Now on stage for the first time at Beef & Boards, the Tony Award-nominated show features all the fun of the film!

KRO Records / Sony Music Masterworks have announced the January 24, 2020 release of the official soundtrack for the Floria Sigismondi (The Runaways, Handmaid's Tale) directed film THE TURNING (DreamWorks Pictures) a?' preorder now.  Starring Finn Wolfhard, Mackenzie Davis and Brooklynn Prince, the film will be released in theaters on January 24, 2020.  Produced by Los Angeles singer/songwriter Lawrence Rothman and producer Yves Rothman, the soundtrack features a dumbfounding amount of revered artists, including Courtney Love, Mitski, Soccer Mommy, Empress Of, Vagabon, Warpaint, Cherry Glazerr, Kali Uchis, Alice Glass, girl in red, MUNA, The Aubreys (Finn Wolfhard's new band) and more (full tracklisting below).

It's been a constant stream of theater and cabaret personalities flocking to see Tom Wopat at the Beach Cafe for the past 5 Wednesdays and his concluding night was no different. Enjoying the final show of the series were Michele Lee, Marilyn Maye, Linda Purl, Stacy Sullivan, Deborah Grace Winer, Jamie deRoy and Ken Fallin among others at the intimate East Side supper club. Tom will be returning to the club for a pre New Years Eve show.

The Eastside Artists will present their annual show and sale December 6-8 at the Masonic Building, 312 E College Street, in downtown Iowa City. Hours are 10am-8pm Friday, 10am-5pm Saturday and Sunday. The show features original, affordable gifts by professional local artists. Admission is free.
