Kim Baldonado, KNBC's Emmy Award winning reporter, was honored as the 2019 BBBSLA Big Sister of the Year. Mike Shumard was the evening's emcee and led the fundraising appeal. Actress Heather Hemmens (If Loving You Is Wrong; Roswell, New Mexico) presented her testimonial as a mentor and 'Big Sister'. The BBBSLA Big Bash Gala benefits youth facing adversity from underserved communities in Los Angeles.

As part of the 2019-2020 Eisemann Center Presents season, New York City-based company Ballets with a Twist brings Cocktail Hour: The Show to the Hill Performance Hall on Friday, February 28, at 7:30pm. Beer, wine, and a selection of cocktails and mocktails complementing the program will be available at the concession stands located in the Eisemann Center lobby. Drinks will be allowed in the hall during the performance.

Here's my understatement of the year so far: Broadway star Megan Hilty is one of the most delightful creatures that has ever graced a stage. This was wonderfully confirmed all throughout the Tony Award nominee's Segerstrom Center for the Arts Cabaret series solo debut, which recently opened to an enthusiastic, candlelit crowd Thursday night and continues for two more performances through November 16, 2019 at the Samueli Theater in Costa Mesa. Beautiful, quirky, bawdy, self-deprecating, and undeniably talented, Ms. Hilty was thoroughly engaging and entertaining during her nearly 80-minute acoustic set backed by musical director and principal pianist Matt Cusson and her bassist/guitarist husband, fellow Broadway performer Brian Gallagher.

Last night, Nov. 14, 2019, Luxor Hotel and Casino hosted the world premiere of the Strip's newest production, R.U.N – the first live-action thriller produced by Cirque du Soleil. The new show is a living, breathing graphic novel that's non-stop tire-peeling, fist-flinging and double-crossing action including combat stunts, fast-paced car chases, cutting-edge technology and innovative multimedia. Audience members were greeted with immersive sensory experiences throughout the evening, starting from the moment they entered the lobby. Poetic Theater Productions, Judson Arts Wednesdays, and The La Paloma Prisoner Project in association with La Lucha Arts presents Ascención: Celebrating the Movement Toward Liberation on Wednesday, November 20th at Judson Memorial Church located at 55 Washington Square S. This special one night only showcase will highlight the work of women artists of color devoted to advocating for and developing work around decarceration, liberation, and reclamation. With a particular focus on those who have been targeted or imprisoned for protecting and defending themselves, their rights, and those of other women or their families, Ascención will create a space for activism, healing, and embracing a destiny of liberation. The program will begin with a free community meal at 7:15pm, provided by Judson Arts Wednesdays and cooked by their volunteer corps. The event will begin at 8pm and is free to the public. Ticket reservations can be made in advance through Eventbrite.
