This March, Ailey Extension invites all to celebrate Women's History Month by joining in the fun during workshops taught by leading ladies of the dance world. Each workshop makes room for guests of all ages, genders, backgrounds, and experience levels to honor the impact of women in dance and embrace their own feminine energy while exploring a variety of exciting techniques.
John Mabey's three-person play A Complicated Hope centers around Marie and her daughter Rose Marie who are left adrift after their husband and father, Michael, passes away. But it's how he leaves that alters the lives of the family forever, especially after they meet Arnie, Michael's boyfriend. Mirroring the erratic path of grief itself, A Complicated Hope flashes between the moments in time that changed them all, exploring the challenges of both finding a family of choice and letting yourself be found. Earlier this year, Kentwood Players presented a reading of Mabey's play in which Shawn Lefty Plunkett portrayed the role of Arnie. I was curious to find out what led to his decision to produce the fully-staged West Coast premiere of A Complicated Hope as well as take on the role of Arnie again.

This summer, Oolite Arts will present two new exhibitions: “Lean-To,” Oolite's annual artist-in-residence exhibition featuring works by 15 Miami-based artists, and “At The Edge,” highlighting six female artists who are working in hard-edge abstraction. Hollywood Museum founder Donelle Dadigan headed a re-opening ceremony of her Hollywood Museum August 4, 2021; commemorating the donated additional props from Bill and Patrick Shea to the Back to the Future Part I, II, III exhibit. On behalf of the Museum and the Shea father and son, Donelle presented a $5,000 check to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which Michael accepted via video.
Calvin Mitchell (Mitch) Douglas passed from metastatic brain cancer on November 5th, 2020 at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, NY. He was 78 years old.
This Christmas Studio 3 Arts has announced their family theatre adaptation of The Princess and the Pea performed from Thursday 10th December to Sunday 20th December at various times throughout the day. This fully socially distanced and Covid-19 secure play will be staged at the iconic Eastbury Manor House, Barking IG11 9SN for groups of up to 6 people.
