As a fan of musical theatre, there is nothing like sitting down with a favorite cast album and being transported (possibly for the umpteenth time) to fantastic worlds, bygone eras, or dramatic locales. These musical journeys help one forget the worries of day to day life and instead spend a couple hours with a smile on the face and a song in the heart. Imagine if the essence of that experience could be captured and put on stage, and you have the hilarious musical THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, the final show in Goodspeed Musicals' 2018 season. Olathe Civic Theatre Association continues its first production of the 2018-2019 season, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, with music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison and book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar. This musical comedy runs for two more weekends, September 7 - 23, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm. Julie Ewing returns after last season's VIOLET to direct this Tony Award-winner alongside Kevin Bogan as music director.

Celebrating over 20 years of acclaimed musical theatre training for young thespians, the Centenary Stage Company's Young Performers Workshop returns to the Little Theater August 3 through August 12 with the annual Summer Festival of Shows. These talented young thespians between the ages of 8 and 18 will present a variety of musical theater favorites including; Blood Brothers, A Year with Frog and Toad, The Drowsy Chaperone, Arthur Miller's All My Sons and the ever-popular One-Act Festival. The Young Performers Workshop is also seeking new and returning applicants for the 2018 Fall Session. Interviews will be held by appointment on Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12. The Shubert Foundation awarded a record total of $26.8 million to 533 not-for-profit performing arts organizations across the United States.
