'We've Only Just Begun: Carpenters Remembered' Touring Show Announces Laguna Playhouse Run

Fifty years ago, A & M Records signed a sister and brother duo called the Carpenters and released their debut album Offering (later re-titled Ticket to Ride), leading the way for the pair to become one of the most successful recording acts of all time. Coinciding with the 50th Anniversary of the monumental signing and album debut, We've Only Just Begun: Carpenters Remembered, the massively successful touring show based around the Carpenters' music and their story, will bring their behind-the-scenes portrait to the Laguna Playhouse in Laguna Beach, California for the first time. The six-performance event will run from Wednesday, August 28 through Sunday, September 1.

Kaleidoscope Creative Partners presents the Off-Broadway premiere of L.O.V.E.R., written and performed by Lois Robbins (TV Land's 'Younger'; Cactus Flower) and directed by Karen Carpenter (Love, Loss, and What I Wore). The limited engagement begins Wednesday, August 21, with the official opening set for Sunday, September 8 (7 PM), and runs through Saturday, November 2 at The Pershing Square Signature Center - The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre (480 West 42nd Street).

BWW Feature: CARPENTERS TRIBUTE CONCERT at Starbright Theatre

The Carpenters transformed music in the 1970s and '80s as one of the biggest-selling American acts, and their legacy lives on. The Carpenter's Tribute Concert, recreating the 1976 United Kingdom tour, will be performed in Las Vegas for one night at the Starbright Theatre on Aug. 10.

Promethean Artists Welcomes Deborah Voigt For General Management

Promethean Artists has announced that acclaimed American soprano Deborah Voigt has joined the roster for General Management. Voigt is the first artist to join the company's selective roster since its founding seven months ago. Having made her name as a leading dramatic soprano, she is internationally lauded for her performances in the operas of Wagner and Strauss, as well as for her recitals and accounts of Broadway standards and popular songs. This change in management reflects what she considers a return to her roots, as she moves from an opera-centered repertoire to the music that first inspired her to choose the life of a singer.

Carpenter Center Awarded California Arts Council 'Arts Education Exposure' Grant

The California Arts Council announced its plans to award $16,200 to the Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center, located on the campus of California State University, Long Beach, as part of its Arts Education Exposure program. This is the second consecutive year that the Carpenter Center has been awarded an Arts Education Exposure grant.

The Carpenter Center Announces 25th Anniversary Season

The Executive Director of the Richard and Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center, Megan Kline Crockett, unveils the 2019-20 season featuring a captivating collection of music, dance, comedy, speakers and family shows across five different performance series: Wit & Wisdom, Dance, WOW!, Sunday Afternoon Concert, and Cabaret. Located on the campus of California State University, Long Beach, the Carpenter Center launches its 25th anniversary season on Saturday, September 21, 2019. New series subscriptions are on sale now with single tickets on sale starting May 21, 2019. The Carpenter Center showcases a dazzling array of talent every year, enriching the Cal State Long Beach campus and the Southern California community, says Executive Director Megan Kline Crockett. We're inviting back some of our favorite performers for our 2019-2020 season as well as welcoming extraordinary artists new to our stage who reflect the broad cultural landscape of Southern California. Video Flashback: Georgia Engel's Life Making People Laugh

Georgia Engel recently passed away at age 70. Engel was a Broadway veteran, appearing in The Drowsy Chaperone; Hello, Dolly!, The Boys From Syracuse, and My One and Only. She was best known, however, for her television roles, namely on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, as well as The Betty White Show, Everybody Loves Raymond, and many more.

An Evening Of Songs And Stories With Steve Katz Comes to the Warner

Steve Katz, founding member of legendary bands Blood, Sweat & Tears and The Blues Project will be at the Warner's Studio Theatre on Friday, April 26 at 8 pm for an evening of stories and songs. National recording artists Lucinda and Michael will open the show! Steve, a guitarist, songwriter and record producer, was also an original member of Even Dozen Jug Band and American Flyer. As a producer and musician, his credits include albums by the Irish band Horslips, Lou Reed and Elliott Murphy. Katz studied guitar with Dave Van Ronk and Rev. Gary Davis. Between 1963 and 1980, he knew and was friends with seemingly everyone in rock 'n' roll and appeared on iconic stages at the Monterey Pop Festival, Newport Folk Festival, Woodstock, the Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall and the Ed Sullivan Show. He dined with Brian Epstein, partied with Groucho Marx, jammed with Mose Allison, worked with the Beatles' George Martin, shared a bag of potato chips with Jimi Hendrix and was told to get a haircut by Mickey Spillane. He was a producer of hit albums (for Lou Reed), a record company executive (Mercury, Green Linnet) and songwriter ('Sometime in Winter,' 'Steve's Song ).
