Tanbark's New Self-Titled LP Drops Today
by Tori Hartshorn - May 31, 2019

Today, Tanbark, comprised of Chloe Nelson and James Jannicelli, released their new self-titled LP 'Heart-Shaped Locket.' The nine-track set came at a time when the band finally felt at home in their adopted hometown of Brooklyn, New York. 'We wanted to make an honest portrayal of our first few years in this massive city and grapple with the smallness of our constant search for an authentic voice and beauty underneath the hustle,' Nelson has said of the album. 'We smoothed the edges of our personal experiences and brought some warm country music tones, pedal steel and piano, to a project recorded in the middle of a harsh winter.' The album rolls between fantasy, innocence and desire, sweetened by the pair's lush harmonies and Nelson's rich, ethereal vocal style.

Tanbark's New Single HEART-SHAPED LOCKET Out via Folk Radio UK
by Tori Hartshorn - May 16, 2019

Brooklyn-based duo Tanbark has shared 'Heart-Shaped Locket,' a new track from their forthcoming self-titled album, out May 31st. The song is the third from the record, and was inspired by, as most of the songs on Tanbark, talismans and good luck charms. ''Heart-Shaped Locket' was inspired by a locket that I got at an antique market in London,' says band member Chloe Nelson. 'I carefully drew tiny illustrations of people in it, and this personal touch unintentionally made the people indecipherable to anyone but myself. A locket is something you wear closed in plain sight, hiding the things or people that you most treasure. I wanted to evoke hastily purchased gift shop tchotchkes and a getaway car with dusty pink dice on the rear-view mirror, rolling out of town. Halfway through the song, the narrator gets a bit less reliable; she pleads and maybe longs for something she does not quite have.”

Rose Hotel Shares RUNNING BEHIND Video, Album Due 5/31
by Tori Hartshorn - May 2, 2019

Rose Hotel, aka Atlanta-based singer-songwriter and frontwoman Jordan Reynolds, is set to release her debut LP, I Will Only Come When It's A Yes, on May 31, 2019 and it is available for pre-order now via Bandcamp. Rose Hotel's 2017 EP, Always A Good Reason, was passed around like a secret in music scenes and college towns from Athens, GA to Bowling Green, KY. The stripped-down intimacy was equal parts introspective and wistful, recalling a distant era when voices like Joni Mitchell and Emmylou Harris cut through the hiss of A.M. static. For I Will Only Come When It's A Yes, Reynolds collaborated with a tight-knit band of musicians from Atlanta's emerging indie scene — members of Material Girls, Neighbor Lady, Shepherds, Karaoke, and Palm Sunday. The result is a polished, full-band evolution of the lo-fi, bedroom origins of Reynolds' first recordings under the moniker. Today, Rose Hotel shared a music video shot entirely on VHS for rollicking album closer, “Running Behind.' Of the song, Reynolds offers, “'Running Behind' was one of the first songs I wrote for this record. At the time, I was feeling very frustrated with where I was in my life. I felt motionless in my art, restless in my relationships, and as if I was constantly three steps behind everyone else surrounding me. For many reasons, I felt held back but writing this song was a moment of admittance of stagnation and a call to do something about it.”

Erik Koskinen Releases New Single 'Darlin''
by Kaitlin Milligan - Apr 25, 2019

Minnesota songsmith Erik Koskinen premiered the rustic new single 'Darlin'' today via GLIDE ahead of its release this Friday. The track is featured on Koskinen's new albumBurning The Deal set to arrive June 28 via Real Phonic Records/Tone Tree Music. Produced by Koskinen andBernie Larsen (Melissa Etheridge, Jackson Browne) and recorded by Jason Mariani (Mumford & Sons, Kenny Loggins), the album has a moody, shadowy vibe and the songs carry familiar musical touchstones: the drifting-cowboy loneliness of Hank Williams; the understated melancholy of J.J. Cale. They're populated by people we recognize, in circumstances we might share (or feel fortunate we don't).
