The term “fairy” either conjures up a vision of a well-loved, winged, Tinkerbell-like, character or an unspoken derogatory term for a man from the gay community. There is no middle ground. It is black or white. But in the 1980's times were different. Perhaps some people even took ownership of the title. This was a time when the words “gay” and “father” were never used together, and a time when no one yet knew if that might, someday, become possible.
Sarasota Orchestra and Musicians Finalize Multi-Year Labor Agreement

Sarasota Orchestra and the American Federation of Musicians Florida Gulf Coast, Local 427-721, finalized a three-year collective bargaining agreement ratified by the Symphonic Musicians Sarasota. Effective for the 2023-2024 season through the 2025-2026 season, the successor agreement includes a 5% annual wage increase for each year of the agreement.

Miller Theatre at Columbia University School of the Arts opens its 2023-24 Composer Portraits series with John Zorn at 70, Music for Strings on Thursday, September 21, 8PM. The places a spotlight on John Zorn's writing for strings, the first of three concerts this fall in celebration of the 70th birthday of the New York musical icon.
