Jazz Philadelphia, the non-profit organization created to promote Philadelphia's thriving jazz scene and prolific jazz history, is proud to announce that two local artists - Paul Jost and Laurin Talese -- have been selected to be among 17 U.S. bands representing the diversity of American music to embark on two-week international tours in 2019-2020 as part of the American Music Abroad (AMA) international cultural exchange. AMA, created in 1957, is an initiative of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, implemented by the Association of American Voices. AMA fosters cross-cultural connections while showcasing America's rich and diverse musical traditions to a global audience.

When describing vocalist and arranger Paul Jost, two words come to mind … “passionate” and “storyteller”. To Paul, each lyric offers a story, a message, and a vehicle to convey his own interpretation and message. While Paul is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and arranger, it's his vocal style that makes him standout. With his reputation as a vocalist growing, Paul has been filling rooms on the New York club scene as well as captivating audiences on festival stages both in the US and Europe.

The Music Institute of Chicago presents guest artists and members of its Jazz Studies faculty in a celebration of the late American vibraphonist and bandleader Lionel Hampton on Saturday, April 20-what would have been his 111th birthday-at 7:30 p.m. at Nichols Concert Hall, 1490 Chicago Ave., Evanston.

Pianist and chanter Paul Barnes brings "Love, Death, and Resurrection in the Musical Vision of Philip Glass, Victoria Bond, Franz Liszt, and Orthodox Chant," along with a premiere commission by Victoria Bond, to Nichols Concert Hall, 1490 Chicago Ave., Evanston, on Sunday, March 10 at 3 p.m., presented by the Music Institute of Chicago.

FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club, presents jazz quintet The Cafe Society as they honor "the grand diva of jazz," Nancy Wilson, on February 1, 2019 at 9:30pm. This carefully curated tribute features a selection of Nancy's songs interwoven with captivating details about her life and music. From her early jazz collaborations with George Shearing and Cannonball Adderley to her biggest R&B hits, enjoy the best of Nancy Wilson as interpreted by this Brooklyn-based group of professional jazz musicians.

The 2019 Freihofer's Saratoga Jazz Festival features an extraordinary roster of twenty-two musical groups, highlighted by the festival debut of Grammy award winning artist Norah Jones, and the return of jazz legend George Benson and festival favorite Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue. Back by popular demand is also Los Van Van 50th Anniversary, Django Festival All-Stars with Edmar Castañeda and Grace Kelly, Joshua Redman Quartet, and James Carter Organ Trio. Fifteen emerging artists making their Saratoga debuts include Kandace Springs, Donna Grantis, Joey DeFrancesco Trio, Mercy Project which features Jon Cowherd, Brian Blade, John Patitucci, and Steve Cardenas, Antonio Sanchez & Migration, and Cha Wa. The Music Institute of Chicago's Faculty and Guest Artist Series continues Sunday, October 28 with a 3 p.m. "Spooktacular" Concert and 4 p.m. Haunted Musical Open House at Nichols Concert Hall, 1490 Chicago Avenue, Evanston. Using a festive Halloween theme as inspiration, the Music Institute's award-winning faculty perform appropriately "scary" music that showcases the historic 1914 E. M. Skinner pipe organ as well as a variety of instruments and musical styles.

Fresh from their Grand Prize-winning performance at the 2018 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, the Callisto Quartet makes its Nichols Concert Hall debut November 10 at 7:30 p.m., presented by the Music Institute of Chicago.
