Last night, November 21, 2023, a Kansas City tradition, the 42rd annual (almost) Kansas City Repertory Theatre production of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” opened at the Spencer Theater on the UMKC campus for an extended run through Christmas Eve. Except for the Covid year when the live production was replaced by a video version, audiences have gathered for “A Christmas Carol” since 1980. The house lights dim and a cast of Victorian holiday carolers appear complete with an onstage costumed orchestra. Our Storyteller (Nedra Dixon) also dressed in stunning early Victorian garb, welcomes us. Ms. Dixon is elegant and charming in this her first stint as the Storyteller.

Origin's 1st Irish 2018, the world's only theatre festival dedicated to showcasing the work of contemporary Irish playwrights, handed out its Best of Festival Awards at closing night festivities at Rosie O'Grady's in Times Square last night. The awards were very evenly distributed among the seven productions in competition from Ireland and the US, but the life of the party was Isobel Mahon's comedy "Party Face," which picked up awards for Best Actress (its star Hayley Mills) and for Best Production. Produced by Robert Driemeyer, Morgan Sills and Jan Warner, the Irish hit's US premiere plays at City Center through April 8. Its New York-based cast includes Klea Blackhurst, Gina Costigan, Brenda Meaney and Allison Jean White.

Harold Sanditen's uber-popular Open Mic Party, Live at Zedel in London's Crazy Coqs cabaret, celebrated its 4th birthday on April 10th with a huge bang! 28 singers made their way to the stage, entertaining the rapt audience for two hours. Check out photos from the night below!

Origin Theatre Company presents the North American premiere of the internationally acclaimed Swedish novelist and playwright Jonas Hassen Khemiri's "The Hundred We Are."  The fascinatingly timely memory play's limited Off-Broadway engagement performs at the cell, 338 West 23rd Street, from Wednesday March 16 to Friday April 8, with an Off-Broadway opening on Monday March 21 at 8pm.

Hudson Valley Singers present their Autumn 2012 Season, featuring the music of Henry Purcell, conducted by Eugene Sirotkine and joined by the New York Metamorphoses Ensemble.
