The Los Angeles engagement of 'Hadestown' opened this week at Center Theatre Group / Ahmanson Theatre.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC's built-in charm and charisma is indeed very much present in McCoy Rigby Entertainment's latest stage iteration of this classic stage production, now playing at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts through May 15, 2022. Filled with visually-captivating production values, a gorgeous-sounding orchestral sound, and an overall, infectiously winning spirit, this new production is a fun, pleasantly nostalgic throwback to the old-fashioned Broadway book musical.

This year's graduating seniors have had anything but a normal high school experience and the past two years have taught them resilience, flexibility, and grace. Undoubtedly, they deserve a bit of celebration for their tenacity and courage. Luckily for students at Sonora High School, Todd Schroeder is back after a five-year hiatus to raise money for the Todd Schroeder Young Artists' Grant to benefit young graduates going into the arts. Todd himself is a graduate of Sonora High School who went on to a successful career as a pianist, composer, and music director. Since 1995, Todd has been giving back to the community with this grant. This year boasts an impressive lineup of celebrities, such as Jason Alexander of Seinfeld fame. Broadway World spoke to Todd about his organization and what we can look forward to at this year's benefit concert that will be happening in Sonora on April 30.

La Mirada will present The Sound of Music beginning in April! The show stars Diane Phelan (Broadway: The King and I & South Pacific at Lincoln Center) as “Maria,” Christopher Carl (Broadway: South Pacific at Lincoln Center, Mamma Mia!) as “Captain von Trapp,” and Grammy nominee Suzanna Guzmán (The King and Iwith Yul Brynner, Bizet’s Carmen) as “Mother Abbess.'

Chalk Repertory Theatre will present a presentation of a new musical The Hurricane with book and lyrics by Cory Hinkle (The End of Beauty, Apocalypse Play, Humanitas Play LA Award, Heideman Award) and music by Carla Patullo (Sandra Bernhard, Liza Minnelli, I Love Being Me Don't You Tour, Lotte that Silhouette Girl).

At American Stage now through February 27 is SCHOOL GIRLS; OR, THE AFRICAN MEAN GIRLS PLAY by Jocelyn Bioh. SCHOOL GIRLS is loosely based on a true story that tells the tale of an all-girls school in Ghana and a prestigious Miss Global Universe pageant. A new, beautiful, and talented American student challenges the queen bee and gets noticed by the pageant recruiter. What ensues is a comedy that explores the universal struggles, similarities, and differences of teen girls, and the need to feel like you belong.

 Legendary stage and film actresses Phyllis Yvonne Stickney and Jennifer Leigh Warren are coming to St. Pete to perform in American Stage’s production of School Girls; or The African Mean Girls Play, running Feb. 2 – Feb. 27, 2022.

Broadway Live Cinema Festival, the new film and live performance event honoring Broadway and movie musicals, has announced the lineup of artists set to perform live at the inaugural festival this summer at AMC Empire 25 Theater in Times Square (234 W 42nd St, NYC).

Richard Jay-Alexander  is an American Broadway producer and director. He served as Executive Director of the New York City office of producer Cameron Mackintosh, known for productions including Les Misérables, Cats, The Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, Five Guys Named Moe, Oliver! and Putting It Together.

Lythgoe Family Panto (LFP), presents a virtual at home sing-along concert CAROLS FOR KIDS, benefiting Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), and featuring stars from a decade of Lythgoe Family productions.

BAYARD: A New Musical will be presented as part of a four night festival featuring original musicals by Richard Allen and Taran Gray. The virtual festival raises money for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA) and Broadway for Racial Justice (BFRJ).

Center Theatre Group is sharing a new series of videos from members of the Center Theatre Group family, called Art Goes On in which stars speak to what theatre means to them right now and share some of their favorite pieces of art.

As soon as the ordinary theatregoer hears the title What the Constitution Means to Me, he may think 'a boring two hours of history and politics! I get enough of that on a daily basis. I think I'll pass.' Beware! Do not make such judgmental statements! Take a leap of faith and see this play. I found it scintillating; it educated and enlightened me. Now onstage through February 23 at the Taper, Heidi Schreck's in depth exploration is not a one person play about the contents of the Constitution. Yes, of course it presents facts, but the overwhelmingly violent issues at hand are extremely personal and relatable. In spite of its dark corners, it will surprisingly shower you with laughs and hopefully make you want to stand up and fight for human rights.
