The number of new productions staged by the UK’s top subsidised theatre companies has dropped by nearly a third over the past decade. In 2024, the 40 best-funded producing theatres—including the National Theatre and Colchester Mercury—opened 229 new shows, down from 332 in 2014.

Open Call Out Launches For Yorkshire Writers In Memory Of Kay Mellor

Writers based in Yorkshire are being invited to apply for a paid, year-long fellowship, which will see them working with Leeds Playhouse and Rollem Productions, alongside a place on the prestigious BBC Writers Voices programme, which will help them to hone their skills in stage and screen as well as gaining on-the-ground industry knowledge through a range of workshops, masterclasses, panels and industry talks.

Cast Set For MY FAIR LADY at Leeds Playhouse

Leeds Playhouse and Opera North have announced a ‘loverly’ cast for their co-production of Lerner and Loewe’s classic musical My Fair Lady, with leading soprano Katie Bird and star of stage and screen John Hopkins in the leading roles of Eliza Doolittle and Henry Higgins. The revival of the award-winning musical plays in Leeds Playhouse’s Quarry Theatre from 31 May – 29 June.
