Florida Repertory Theatre's Education Department is announcing the opening of Disney's "Newsies" as part of its popular Conservatory Program. Playing in the Historic Arcade Theatre May 10-12 and May 15-19, the musical sensation features a professional director and creative team and an all-star cast of young people from across Southwest Florida.

Children's Playhouse of Maryland (CPM), in residence at CCBC Essex, proudly presents Disney's Newsies, The Musical as part of its Young Adult Series. Based on the movie Newsies, this production features 33 student actors from Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Harford County and Prince George's County.

Tickets are now on sale for Disney's NEWSIES presented by City Circle Theatre Company of Coralville in collaboration with Nolte Academy. Directed by Chris Okiishi and Leslie Nolte, Disney's NEWSIES will be performed June 14,15,16, 21 and 22 at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts.

Within the world of Disney Theatricals, I would argue that Newsies is one of their finest and more unique offerings. As many know, the musical version of Newsies is based on the original movie of the same name which was originally released in 1992. Like many Disney properties, the theatrical division decided to play with the idea of adapting it for the stage. It was originally intended to be a one off production to be sent into licensing (sense then musical adaptions of The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Freaky Friday have done just that). However, the house of mouse saw something special in this particular adaptation and took the big step of mounting a full scale Broadway production. The rest is history. Newsies is now more popular than it ever was, it has forged its way out of being a cult classic, and is now cemented in the main stream.

Timber Lake Playhouse (TLP), the premier professional summer theatre of northwest Illinois, opens its 58th consecutive summer season for 2019 on May 11 with the ABBA Tribute Band, Dancing Queen. Jack learns where his he belongs and the rest of New York learns the power of the 'little guys'.
