Preview: PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL IN CONCERT with the FILMharmonique Orchestra
by Amanda Barnum
- Apr 28, 2026
Released 23 years ago, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl’ is the first film in what has now become a $4.5 billion franchise with five films released and a sixth on the way. The hilariously mischievous Captain Sparrow has been a fan favourite thanks to Johnny Depp’s skilled portrayal, and the film’s quick, witty plot is complimented by an astounding cast of actors. The visual effects, set decor, wardrobe, and props blend the world of mid-1700’s Jamaica into a truly magical place. However, nothing transports the audience quite as effectively as the powerful motion picture score.

The architectural grandeur of the vast sanctuary enhances the natural acoustics of the string quartet, the vaulted ceilings allowing for longer reverberation times. With thousands of candles delicately placed throughout the space, the ambience was surreal as night fell upon us.

David Bay: The New Rules of Musical Stardom

There is a version of this story that would have gone very differently. A talented violinist from Belarus finishes conservatory, wins some competitions, sends out recordings, and waits. Maybe a label picks him up. Maybe it doesn't. Maybe he spends the next decade playing regional venues, genuinely skilled, but known only to a small professional circle. That version was completely possible. It just isn't what happened.
