The Lexington Theatre Company brings Broadway and Rising Stars to the stage.  Irving Berlin’s White Christmas will be led by seasoned pros from Broadway/National Tours including Matthew Amira (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Dirty Dancing) as Bob Wallace, Darius Jordan Lee (Ain’t Too Proud) as Phil Davis, Gregory North (Into the Woods, Secret Garden, Grand Hotel) as General Waverly, Desi Oakley (Waitress, Annie, Chicago, Wicked, Les Misérables) as Betty Hanyes and Molly Rushing (Anastasia the Musical) as Judy Haynes. Goodspeed Musicals has announced the cast for the world premiere musical comedy Summer Stock, the second production of its 60th anniversary season. Filled with exuberant dance numbers and hits from the American songbook, it is adapted from the MGM/Warner Bros. film Summer Stock and will appear on the Goodspeed stage from July 7 – August 27 in East Haddam, Connecticut.

Overall--especially in this tighter, revised version lifted from London’s West End production that’s much zippier than the original--there is no denying that YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is a witty, super funny, and genuinely enjoyable musical comedy that earns plenty of laughs and smiles along the way.

5-STAR THEATRICALS has announced the third show of its 2021-2022 season, the regional premiere of Disney’s NEWSIES, book by Harvey Fierstein, music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, musical conductor and direction by Wilkie Ferguson, associate director & choreography Anthony Raimondi and directed & choreographed by Richard J. Hinds.

Though SCR's admirable new production of the 1963 Broadway musical SHE LOVES ME, for the most part, still has many charming, beautifully-staged, and well-sung moments, it also somehow feels like it is slightly reigned in, as if there was a purposeful attempt to downscale some of its built-in whimsy and spirited vivaciousness---particularly in the first act where emotional expressions all seem to sit in the same middle areaa?? never tipping over to too angry or too sad or too happy or too, well, anything. Now on stage in Costa Mesa through February 22, 2020, the production---directed by the theater's own artistic director David Ivers---is genuinely entertaining, but still needs a huge shot of joy, romance, and pep to make it feel complete.
