Now in its third season, Cal Performances at UC Berkeley's “Illuminations” series presents “Human and Machine”: six mainstage performances addressing the complex and changing relationship between technology and creative expression. The series' centerpiece is the eagerly anticipated U.S. premiere of William Kentridge's hit multi-disciplinary theatrical production SIBYL, which offers a meditation on the ultimately unknowable nature of the future (March 17–19).

What did our critic think of LEAR at Cal Shakes?

California Shakespeare Theater has announced the full cast and creative team for LEAR, the world premiere modern verse translation of Williams Shakespeare’s King Lear by playwright and Oakland-native Marcus Gardley.

California Shakespeare Theater’s (Cal Shakes) Board of Directors announced that Artistic Director Eric Ting will depart the Bay Area non-profit theater organization following the conclusion of the 2022 season. The Board of Directors has formed a transition committee to begin the important work of overseeing the artistic leadership evolution.

A private industry reading of Ask, I Will Tell, a new musical by Ben Diskant, will be presented in New York City on Thursday, June 23 at 3pm.

Play On Shakespeare, the not-for-profit organization dedicated to exploring the world of Shakespeare in performance through translation and adaptation, today announces their spring/summer 2022 season. Lue Douthit, President and Co-Founder says: 'Well, the theater world is definitely opening up. We literally mean 'world' (Prague, Guam, England) and suddenly there are ten professional productions of Play On translations opening in the next few months, including two in San Francisco (African-American Shakespeare Company and Cal Shakes). We are delighted that there are so many opportunities for audiences to gather together again to see and hear Shakespeare differently. Play on!'

The Children's Theatre Company and Alliance Theatre's World Premiere Co-Production of Lloyd Suh's BINA'S SIX APPLES directed by Eric Ting runs on The Coca-Cola Stage through March 27th, 2022.

The Alliance Theatre will present the inspiring and timely world premiere play, BINA'S SIX APPLES, on The Coca-Cola Stage from March 11–27, 2022.  This co-production with Children's Theatre Company concluded its run in Minnesota earlier this month to much critical acclaim. 

The imminent start of the 2022 Oregon Shakespeare Festival season—Artistic Director Nataki Garrett’s first full season—marks a celebratory return to repertory producing. The 2022 lineup features eight on-stage plays and musicals, from classic Shakespeare to works by some of today’s most exciting playwrights.
