The Musical Theatre Lab Series at Manhattan School of Music will house developmental workshops and readings of four new musicals in its 2025-26 season, featuring the work of Jonathan Larson grantees, a two-time Obie Award-winner, and more.

Georgia native Cartreze Tucker returns home as Goldie Wilson and Marvin Berry in the national tour of BACK TO THE FUTURE: THE MUSICAL, which is opening production of the 2025 – 2026 Regions Bank Broadway in Atlanta season and plays at The Fox Theatre September 23 - 27.

One Night, an original musical comedy-drama with book and lyrics by Kleban Award winners Laurence Holzman & Felicia Needleman, will have its world premiere as part of the Broadway Bound Theatre Festival in Manhattan, with four performances, July 30 - August 2, 2025.

Television and film have always encapsulated my attention with a fervor. The imprint left by action movies from a bygone era still burn with a certain reverence. It is no secret that the culture of today seems to thrive on nostalgia which is why we see so many theatrical productions having made their way from the screen to the stage.

Lucas Hallauer will assume the role of Marty McFly in the North American Tour of BACK TO THE FUTURE: The Musical in Denver, CO. Caden Brauch will play his final tour performance as Marty McFly in Denver.

A riotous, mostly silly, but also sometimes laughably odd theatrical entity, this touring production of this enjoyable, endearingly-familiar stage musical adaptation of the hit 1985 sci-fi comedy is definitely a fun time—but mostly due to its visual wow factor. For those who cherish the original film, the musical is a delightful tribute. For newcomers or those seeking a deeper narrative experience, it's an entertaining-enough spectacle.

Dear Readers, buckle up! Not because we’re about to go 88 mph but because I’m about to be a musical theater snob. The trend of turning popular (or even not so popular) movies into big splashy Broadway musicals is not a new one. And when it works such as with the likes of “Legally Blonde”, “Waitress”, or “Some Like It Hot”, it can be glorious. But for every one of those, you also get the likes of “Pretty Woman”, “Dirty Dancing”, or God forbid “Flashdance”. Shows that were better left on the silver screen. One such show is “Back to the Future: The Musical”, currently playing at the Paramount Theatre. And even if they could have gotten the car running (we’ll get to that in a minute) the show is still a travesty.

Mike Bindeman will join the North American Tour of BACK TO THE FUTURE: The Musical as George McFly. Bindeman will assume the role in January as Burke Swanson departs the company. 

Is there some sort of formula for roping in both fans of a hit movie and stage hounds, to catch lightning in a new medium? Judging by what the musical's book writer Bob Gale, director John Rando and the musical team must have been thinking, the answer is you slavishly remake the movie on stage.

Back to the Future – The Musical makes its Los Angeles premiere at The Pantages Theatre November 6, 2024, and returns to southern California at Segerstrom Center for the Arts December 26th.
