Brooklyn's Soapbox Gallery Presents The SONIC VISION LOOPING FESTIVAL

Soapbox Gallery, the intimate Prospect Heights' performance space that grew out of the studio of sculptor Jimmy Greenfield, will present three nights of live streaming performances, each dedicated to adventurous electronic looping sounds paired with video narratives, The Sonic Vision Looping Festival, August 26 - 28 at 8 PM.

Fifth Word has announced the full cast for their forthcoming UK tour of Lava, the bold new writing company's latest production with co-producer Nottingham Playhouse. Kacey Ainsworth is most well known as long-running character Little Mo in Eastenders. More recently, the award-winning actress has starred in ITV's Grantchester and on stage as Mrs Lovett in the Liverpool Everyman's production of Sweeney Todd where she received rave reviews for her performance. Dan Parr more recently performed in Road at the Royal Court Theatre, London and at Leeds Playhouse's pop-up theatre.

The purchase of the former EMD Cinema - previously Granada Cinema - on Hoe Street, Walthamstow, comes a third into Waltham Forest's year as the Mayor's first ever London Borough of Culture. The site is known for staging some of the biggest names in the industry, including The Beatles, Duke Ellington, Rolling Stones, The Who, James Brown, The Ronettes, Johnny Cash, and Roy Orbison. For one day only (21 May), it will open its doors once again for a series of behind-the-scenes public tours.

BRIC, celebrating 40 years as the leading presenter of free cultural programming in Brooklyn, presents Penelope Umbrico: MONUMENT, an exhibition in the Gallery at BRIC House exploring the monolithic state of our current technologies in relation to their obsolescence. Starting with the idea that all technologies are in effect “black boxes” to most users who engage with them, Umbrico will present a major installation and other works that will act to demystify them. The centerpiece of the exhibition will be a 20 foot long wall of broken semi functional LCD TVs that reveals their insides while serving as a platform for video programing and/or a backdrop for performances. The exhibition will be on view from November 29, 2018 – January 20, 2019 with an opening reception on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 from 7-9pm.
