The Latiné Musical Theatre Lab, a new organization that develops and advocates for new Latiné-written works of musical theatre in order to radically change who gets to tell musical stories on stages across the country, is presenting its first ever Benefit Concert. 

South Texas College (STC) Theatre presents its inaugural South Texas Latinx New Play Festival. The festival will take place on Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25 at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, June 25 at 2 p.m. Performances will be at STC’s Cooper Center for Performing Arts Main Stage Theater at 3200 W. Pecan Blvd. in McAllen.

Teatro Audaz continues its triumphant return to live productions with the latest play in their 2022 season dedicated to Latinx families. The Mesquite Tree, an American Tragedy, is a new family dramedy written by South Texas playwright David Davila (Manuel Vs the Statue of Liberty, The Aztec Pirates trilogy) and directed by Vanessa Rae Lerma.

David Davila's The Piñata will receive a workshop production at Indiana University this weekend directed by Lauren Diesch in fulfillment of an IU Theatre and Dance graduate first year playwright and director collaboration project.

This year's festival will feature two productions of new plays in repertoire by third year MFA playwright Jayne Deely and visiting professor of playwriting Diana Grisanti. The festival will also showcase staged readings of new plays by MFA playwriting candidates, Annalise Cain, and David Davila, several panels with esteemed guests, and Undergrad Shorts, an evening of short plays written by undergraduate playwrights. 

The sixth group of writers to take part in The PlayGround Experiment's exciting new workshop are Nadia Andrade, Maria Arreola, Sergio Garcia, Peter Pasco, Germôna Sharp, and Linett Luna Tovar. The workshop culminates on December 10th with a public presentation of excerpts from these writers' new works.

Jaime Lozano is taking the Lucille Lortel stage with a concert full of stories and songs featuring his 'Familia,' an all-Latinx/Latino/Latine lineup of the best Broadway and Off-Broadway performers including Mauricio Martínez (On Your Feet!), Florencia Cuenca (A Never-Ending Line), Marina Pires (On Your Feet!), and Cedric Leiba, Jr. (Carmen La Cubana); and also an all Latinx band formed by Ruben Rodríguez (bass), Jhoely Garay (guitar) and Joel Mateo (drums).

On November 14-16th, Egg & Spoon will produce a workshop of Phanésia Pharel's play, Black Girl Joy, as part of their 2021 Incubation Series. It will take place at WP Theater, and will be co-produced by viBe Theater Experience, a partner organization of WP Theater.

Jaime Lozano is all about creating work for the Latin and Hispanic communities, and in the process he creates good fun for a house full of enthusiastic music lovers.

Egg & Spoon Theatre Collective announced its 2021 Incubation Series Writers, who will each receive a fifteen-hour virtual workshop this summer. The writers are Phanésia Pharel, Reynaldo Piniella, and David Davila.
