Two dazzling specials featuring some of the biggest names in music will bring melodies in December: “A Very Backstreet Christmas” celebrates the holidays with The Backstreet Boys, and “Finding Harmony” is an uplifting story featuring EGOT winner John Legend and David Brown, founder of the Columbus-based Harmony Project in Ohio.

eal McDonough (THE FLASH, CAPTAIN AMERICA) and Casey Cott (RIVERDALE) are set to headline the sports drama BLACK SPARTANS, which is directed and written by Ben Cory Jones (INSECURE, BOOMERANG). The film is scheduled to shoot this fall in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dallas Black Dance Theatre is a part of the 2022 season of Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage, in New York City. DBDT will perform works by notable choreographers including Darrell Grand Moultrie, Elisa Monte, Hope Boykin, and Christopher L. Huggins on July 22, 2022.

What did our critic think?With direction by Kent Gash, Steppenwolf’s staging of CHOIR BOY hits all the right notes. Steppenwolf ensemble member Tarell Alvin McCraney’s play is is a heartwrenching and tuneful story about Pharus— a young gay Black man who relishes nothing more than his role as the choir lead at the prestigious Charles R. Drew Prep School for Boys. Over the course of the play, Pharus navigates that classic adolescent tension between his desire to be fully himself and his wish to be accepted among his peers. McCraney’s script beautifully demonstrates this push-and-pull in a way that will universally resonate with audiences, but the story is also incredibly specific to Pharus and his classmates.

Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) has today revealed an inclusive range of new and continuing programmes created to support and develop burgeoning filmmaking and curatorial talent across the film industry.

The August Wilson Monologue Competition announces the finalists for the 2021 August Wilson Monologue Competition and the new “Designing August” competition.  The Chicago finals will be held virtually on March 22, 2021 at 6pm. Each year, hundreds of high schoolers compete for a chance to represent Chicago in the national competition, which will also be held virtually this year.
