BWW Review: Encore Performing Arts Invites You to Come to the CABARET at Osceola Arts BWW Review: Encore Performing Arts Invites You to Come to the CABARET at Osceola Arts
by Albert Gutierrez - Feb 22, 2020

The last time I attended a production at Osceola Arts, the stage had been transformed into 1899 New York City for a production of Newsies. Last night, I returned to Osceola Arts, but now found myself transported thirty-two years later and over four thousand miles eastward to Germany, specifically the Kit Kat Klub of Berlin as immortalized in the 1966 musical CABARET. Although we're now ninety years removed from the Weimar Republic, CABARET still feels timely as ever. Given what regime succeeded the Weimar Republic, maybe that should not be good news. Yet that is why we need shows like CABARET: reminders that the apathy and distractions we think help us get by should actually not be our only outlet for life and livelihood. The Kit Kat Klub becomes less a physical place than it does a state of mind, one that comments upon the action of the musical, but does so without the repercussions and consequences of the narrative, at least until the bitter end. by BWW News Desk - Nov 1, 2019

It's just one week away from the Orlando Regional Premiere of 'Matilda, The Musical' at Theatre South Playhouse. With Productions of 'Matilda' popping up all over the country, what will make this local theater's production stand out? The Producers say, 'Size and concept.' Hillary Brook, the theater's Executive Producer explains, 'Our space is so unique in size and shape, that our 'Matilda' will be an entirely different experience than you will get in a traditional proscenium theater. Intimate moments in this type of show can often get lost in larger houses. Our 99 seat L-Shaped Black Box Theater will allow audiences to feel fully surrounded in Matilda's world and witness a re-telling of this piece with a fresh take on the author's brilliant story. BWW Review: Theater West End Goes All Out for ONCE ON THIS ISLAND with an In-House Beach and Crazy-Talented Cast BWW Review: Theater West End Goes All Out for ONCE ON THIS ISLAND with an In-House Beach and Crazy-Talented Cast
by Aaron Wallace - Oct 21, 2019

ONCE ON THIS ISLAND comes to life with mounds of sand, full-fledged shacks, an overturned boat that doubles as a platform, a wood-planked bridge, and a running stream of water that curls around the stage in a rock-lined canal. Let me repeat: they built a river that flows through the theatre. It's the most impressive set I've seen here, and that's saying something. At one point, rain falls down from the ceiling all around the stage, as if to replenish the river as it evaporates under Derek Critzer and Jonathan Scaringella's lively light design. (more...)
