College of DuPage (COD) College Theater presents Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," adapted by William J. Norris and directed by COD Professor of Theater, Amelia Barrett at the McAninch Arts Center, Thanksgiving Weekend, Nov. 23-25. In addition, a performance has been added for area school children, grades 2nd and up Monday, Nov. 26 at 10 a.m. Audience members arriving early to the Nov. 23-25 performances will be serenaded with Christmas songs by members of the cast, and Santa will be in the lobby following the matinee performances on Nov. 23 and 24, to chat and pose for photos. The laughs are divine as The Human Race Theatre Company presents Hail Mary!, its third production by comedic playwright Tom Dudzick. Plucky novice Mary is causing trouble again, teaching her own unorthodox views on God to the third graders at Saint Aloysius Catholic Elementary School, where she's hardly a favorite with her conservative Mother Superior. Mary's aspirations of becoming a nun are in further jeopardy when her childhood sweetheart reappears and declares his love. Will she give up a life of Sisterhood for the man of her dreams? Or will she choose another path and listen to an eccentric priest who proclaims her to be the world's next savior in this delightful comedy that puts the 'fun' in fundamentalism. The preview performance of Hail Mary! is Thursday, November 3. Memories come alive and love becomes desperate in this shimmering drama of a family on the edge. Tom struggles to make it in a modern day world while his reclusive sister hides amongst the small glistening crystalline creatures she collects. Their mother holds tight to a fantasy of Southern gentility and the belief that a certain gentleman caller will be the answer to their problems. With an edge as sharp as broken glass, it's a story that cuts deep into the longing of human hearts.
