With off-Broadway performances resuming at some venues in New York, mid-May openings in the UK, and performances already underway in Australia and some parts of Asia, things are steadily returning to a sense of normal in the performing arts industry.

Our journey down the road to a fully reopened Broadway continues... slowly. Today, April 2, New York event, arts and entertainment venues holding less than 10,000 people are officially allowed to reopen at 33% capacity.

Hope is on the horizon! With the acceleration of vaccine distribution and a new timetable to begin reopening NYC, some of the first re-openings have recently been announced. We've rounded up all of the latest news on the current state of Broadway for April 2021.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that more New Yorkers will soon be eligible for the state's vaccination program. Starting tomorrow (8am), residents age 30+ will be eligible to schedule vaccine appointments and starting April 6 (8am), residents 16+ will be eligible.

Broadway League President Charlotte St. Martin reveals that some shows are 'tentatively holding September dates for reopening or opening,' with a several others planning on October and November.

With the ongoing Broadway shutdown due to COVID-19 and cancellation of all school field trips, The Broadway League, with the support of the New York City Department of Education and the United Federation of Teachers, will be offering all NYC Public School 10th graders free streaming to three previously recorded Broadway and West End shows.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen announcements that indicate much of the same, and plans are being made, tickets are being sold, and soon artists will be getting hired to get much of the creative economy back to work. While this is not a happy anniversary, it is a hopeful one.

Forty-two students, selected from public high schools across New York City, will participate in The Broadway League’s ninth annual High School Broadway Shadowing Program. The 2021 program will be presented online due to the ongoing health concerns with COVID-19.
