Last night, The Duplex Cabaret Theatre welcomed with open arms Cayman Ilika, and special guests Olivia Hernandez, Charlie Johnson, and Ethan Andersen on keys. The set featured the leading lady's bicoastal journey as she reclaims New York in full-throated measure.

Oh my! What a year! We've seen bad-ass gospel singers, lost Jewish plays, mythical towns of excretion and even an octopus wrestler or two. No, those aren't allusions to the crazy theater going on in Washington D.C. but the crazy wonderful theater going on right here in the Seattle area. It was tough coming up with just one winner (or even just a few Honorable Mentions) but I managed to do it a?? for the most part. Plus, some shows that more of you should have seen. (Yes, that's me nagging you all, Dear Readers, to check out more of the smaller or obscure theaters around here.) But what it all comes down to is, we're blessed here in the Northwest with an over-abundance of theatrical riches and I'm so fortunate to be able to share some of my favorites of the year with you with the BWW 2019 Seattle Critic's Choice Awards (Jay's Picks). So, let's get started, shall we?

CURTAINS will premiere in London at Wyndham's Theatre, playing 38 performances from 13 December 2019 until 11 January 2020.

Joel B. New has crafted something of seemingly accidental genius. The combination of Monkey Trouble and Unleashed! in the form of Monkey Trouble: Unleashed! equals humor, action, and a lot more romance than you would have expected. Ultimately, fate makes a man who thinks he's a monkey choose: to fight or to love.

The 6th season of New York Theatre Barn's Choreography Lab continues Monday, October 14th, 2019. Funded in part by a generous gift from the Amber Foundation, the Choreography Lab was created to elevate and expand the use of dance in musical theatre. It is also the only curated choreography platform where choreographers and writers collaborate to develop movement for new musicals during incubation.

Andrew Cristi has joined the cast of Joel B. New's Monkey Trouble Unleashed! in its world concert premiere on Sunday, October 6th at 6:30pm at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre.
