Highlights In Jazz Presents the 47th Anniversary Gala

The 48th season of the popular Highlights In Jazz series gets off to a roaring start on Feb. 13, 2020, when producer Jack Kleinsinger presents the Highlights In Jazz 47th Anniversary Gala. Featured performers include bassist Jay Leonhart, pianist Tomoko Ohno, drummer Bobby Sanabria, saxophonist Steve Wilson, percussionist/drummer Memo Acevedo, violinist/mandolinist Aaron Weinstein, and drummer Vito Lesczak. And, in keeping with the beloved HIJ tradition, a surprise special guest will be on hand for the concert, held at BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center.

The Duke Ellington Center Big Band Will Perform At Birdland Jazz Club

 The Duke Ellington Center Big Band, conducted by multi-Grammy nominated Bobby Sanabria, will perform CrackerJazz, the third of a monthly performance series honoring jazz icon Duke Ellington on Sunday, November 3 at Birdland Jazz Club, 315 West 44th Street, NYC. Doors open at 4:30pm; performance at 5:30pm.

Jazzmobile@55 Presents TAYLOR MADE at Flushing Town Hall

On Saturday, October 19, Flushing Town Hall and Jazzmobile, Inc. will presentTaylor Made to celebrate the renowned Dr. Billy Taylor and Jazzmobile@55, bringing established NEA Jazz Master Jimmy Owens, Winard Harper & Jeli Posse, other jazz greats and rising stars to the stage together for a hard-swinging concert.

Morristown Jazz & Blues Festival Begins August 17

The ninth Morristown Jazz & Blues Festival will be held on the Green on Saturday, August 17, from noon until 10:00 p.m. This year the annual free concert pays tribute to the 40th anniversary of the world's greatest jazz radio station WBGO and to the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock Music Festival. An initiative by Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty, it is made possible by the generous support of a long list of sponsors.

Ricky Martin Named Grand Marshal National Puerto Rican Day Parade 2019

The National Puerto Rican Day Parade (NPRDP) Board of Directors announced additional themes and tributes that will make up its 2019 celebration.  Under the theme, "One People, Many Voices," the Parade will continue celebrating the best of Puerto Rican culture and history, paying tribute to key historical figures and raising awareness on issues of importance in the community.  The Parade also announced several distinguished Puerto Ricans that will round out its roster of honorees to march up Fifth Avenue on June 9.  

Celebrate Culture at the Annual South Bronx Festival 2019: RetroACTIVO

Casita Maria Center For Arts & Education, and Council Member Rafael Salamanca, Jr., are proud to present the South Bronx Culture Trail Festival 2019: retroACTIVO. The festival will last from May 24 to June 29, and will include multiple family-friendly events throughout the South Bronx, presented in partnership with community-based organizations, art institutions, health providers, and city agencies.

Modeled after the highly acclaimed retrospective of Tito Puente in 2017, the Hostos Center for the Arts & Culture will honor the late iconic singer and bandleader Francisco Machito Grillo (1908-1984) and his Orchestra (the Afro-Cubans) in a 3-day celebration May 2-4 on the campus of Hostos Community College, 450 Grand Concourse (at 149th Street), in the Bronx. Machito & the Impact of the Afro-Cubans at 80 examines the Orchestra's influence on a variety of Latin musical styles, including Latin jazz that affected the music of Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Stan Kenton and others.

Mafalda Minnozzi And Paul Ricci Announce NY Club Dates And Apap Showcases

Singer Mafalda Minnozzi and guitarist Paul Ricci have broken musical ground in Brazil and Italy in a long running collaboration resulting in her notable solo career. Over time the freedom of their musical empathy overshadowed the usual larger band format resulting in a duo with its own unique language derived from both their Jazz and European upbringings and their extensive touring. Collectively they have recorded or performed with Milton Nascimento, Leny Andrade, Astrud Gilberto, Harold Vick, Sonny Fortune, Manolo Badrena, Guinga, Bebel Gilberto, Toquinho, Hugo Fattoruso, Bobby Sanabria, Dom Um Romao, Andre Mehmari, Roy Haynes, Harry Belafonte, Mike Clark and so many others.

The Second Annual Hudson Jazz Festival Will Be Presented In February

Curated by Hudson-based jazz pianist Armen Donelian, the 2019 festival treats jazz aficionados and world music fans to a banquet of masterful artists playing music from around the globe.
