Protective Agency has been released, a new book by Gary Beck.

Gary Beck has spent most of his adult life as a theatre director and worked as an art dealer when he couldn't earn a living in the theater. He has also been a tennis pro, a ditch digger and a salvage diver. His original plays and translations of Moliere, Aristophanes and Sophocles have been produced Off Broadway.

Translated for the stage by Gary Beck & Jane Oliensis, three of the oldest, funniest comedies of Aristophanes are now available to those who love a good read. Great characters and stories, including the sexiest anti-war play ever written, Lysistrata, about a strong, determined woman who could be a role model for women concerned with issues today.

a?? Weathervane Theatre has announced that a special presentation of Ta?? he Congresswomena?? by Kelly Strandemo. Originally developed by the award-winning Ducdame Ensemble, this funny and timely adaptation of Aristophanes' Ekklesiazousai a??will play Sunday, October 4th at 5PM ET and Tuesday, October 6th at 7PM ET.

Pear Theatre's 2020-21 season continues with the classic Lysistrata, Aristophanes' comedy about women enacting a sex strike to convince their husbands to end war (translation/adaptation written by Carolyn Balducci). 

Theatre Wesleyan's 'Six Plays At Six Feet' semester of fall programming continues with an outdoor production of an original play written and directed by professor of theatre Connie Whitt-Lambert.  The production will be performed on the lawn of the Kay Granger Mall at Texas Wesleyan University.

This Spotlight focuses on Costume Designer and Educator Halei Parker, who I first met in the dressing room at the Clark Library when she showed up with a wonderful variety of cleverly designed costumes for the publicity photo shoot for a?oeLady Windermere's Fana?? when I was the publicist for Chalk Repertory Theatre. Halei really opened my eyes to the possibilities for character interpretation that a costume designer can bring to a show.

The most delicately exquisite moments are visible in those poems where the poet charged with emotions reveals lyrical intensity. The subtle power and intense imagination in these poems will certainly appeal to all readers.
