A star-studded line-up will celebrate HB95 the 95th birthday of legendary singer, activist and actor Harry Belafonte. The evening will also present the inaugural Harry Belafonte Social Justice Awards in honor of the 10th anniversary of Sankofa.org, the social justice organization Mr. Belafonte co-founded.

A star-studded line-up will celebrate the 95th birthday of legendary singer, songwriter, activist, and actor Harry Belafonte. The benefit evening (HB95) will also present the inaugural Harry Belafonte Social Justice Awards.

Today, the full list of nominees for the “53rd NAACP Image Awards” were announced. Nominees included Ariana DeBose, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Encanto, Cynthia Erivo, Audra McDonald, Respect, Taraji P. Based on Marvel's hit comic books, the highly-anticipated series follows the adventures of 13-year-old super-genius Lunella Lafayette and her 10-ton T-Rex, Devil Dinosaur. After Lunella accidentally brings Devil Dinosaur into present-day New York City via a time vortex, the duo works together to protect the city's Lower East Side from danger. 

Segerstrom Center for the Arts will present John Lloyd Young's Broadway on December 15-16-17 at the Samueli Theatre. In his signature passionate and thrilling style, the Tony and Grammy Award winner interprets the spine-tingling, soul-bearing showstoppers that shaped his earliest Broadway aspirations.

The film follows author Ben Mears as he returns to his childhood home of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book. Upon his arrival, he discovers his hometown is being preyed upon by a bloodthirsty vampire. 

The lineup features 22 documentaries, 20 narrative features and 18 short films, which represent 20 countries including Germany, India, France, Austria, Poland, Australia, Israel, Kosovo, UK, China, Denmark, Canada, Chile, Greece, Hungary, Argentina, Switzerland, Italy and Norway

Based on actual events and characters, the film's story is told by Frank Custer (Damien Leake), a southern Black migrant working on the 'kill floor' of a giant World War One Chicago slaughterhouse under the command of Foreman Harry (Dennis Farina) and struggling to earn enough to bring his wife (Alfre Woodard) and children to more freedom up north.

Woodard most recently starred on screen in “Clemency,” garnering BAFTA & Independent Spirit Award nominations, and in the Apple+ TV series “See,” co-starring Jason Momoa.

The Creative Coalition has applauded passage of the American Rescue Plan, which includes $135 million in funding for both the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. These funds will support arts and cultural organizations to address layoffs, budget cuts, and implementation of public health protocols.

Belafonte started the organization in 2005 after witnessing a news report of a 5-year-old Black girl being handcuffed and arrested in her Florida classroom for “being unruly.” The organization’s mission is to build a movement to end child incarceration while working to eliminate the racial inequities that permeate the justice system.

Actress and singer Diamond White ('The Bold and the Beautiful,' Disney's 'The Lion Guard') will star as Lunella Lafayette (aka Moon Girl) in Disney Channel's highly anticipated animated series 'Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur,' slated to premiere in 2022.
