Review Roundup: Sting Stars In THE LAST SHIP
by Aliya Al-Hassan - Sep 24, 2026
Rooted in his own childhood in the British shipbuilding town of Wallsend, The Last Ship tells the moving story of a community of shipbuilders in the North East of England, faced with the closure of their shipyard – the heart of their existence. Sting takes on the role of Jackie White, the shipyard's foreman whose health is failing just as his leadership is needed most. In this very personal show, the artist immerses the audience in the hometown he was desperate to escape, a world where love, loss, and hope intertwine.
Review: HAROLD AND MAUDE at Open Stage

This show is an excellent season opener for the theater. It celebrates non-comformity and an appreciation for life. Playing now through September 26th. Carpe Diem!
Review: REFUGEE RHAPSODY at Contemporary American Theater Festival
by Jack L. B. Gohn - Jul 18, 2026
Refugee Rhapsody, by Yussef El Guindi, is kind of funny. You may consider that an odd trait for a play about violence, racism, immigration and the dangerous effects of celebrity culture, but it happens to be true. In our media environment we are frequently confronted by enormities that leave us very undecided about how to react, and in such an environment, Refugee Rhapsody, about several different kinds of enormities, just slides in and makes its sardonic wit at home.
Review: BEST LINE WINS at Contemporary American Theater Festival
by Andrew White - Jul 15, 2026
Ms. Kander has set herself a high bar indeed, writing at a level to match one of the early Sketch Comedy era’s most famous duos, and she absolutely nails it. It helps, too, that we have a perfect cast for this run: in the role of Elaine herself, Lori Vega is edgy, scalpel-sharp, and as proud and brassy as can be. As Mike, Riley Shanahan yields readily to Vega’s Elaine May; his initial awkwardness and cluelessness is endearing, and his return to May, years later, acknowledges the debt he owed to her.
