Marnina Schon

BIO

Marnina Schon is a SAG-AFTRA & AEA actor, singer, violinist and writer based in Los Angeles.

As an actor, Marnina starred in the dramedy series Chanshi (featuring Henry Winkler), an Official Sundance Selection and winner of best independent comedy pilot at SeriesFest. Marnina has performed in countless theater productions in the LA area (South Coast Rep, Laguna Playhouse), and originated roles in workshops at Center Theatre Group, The Wilshire Ebell, The Elysian, Ojai Playwrights Conference, A Noise Within, and the Geffen Playhouse. Critics have called her performances “quirky perfection” (StageSceneLA) and “most interesting…I wish she had more stage time” (Broadway World).

You may have also seen Marnina ruining Kat Denning’s date on Hulu’s Dollface, hacky-sackying to the delight of Fred Armisen and the dismay of Sian Clifford (Netflix’s Unstable), creating sketch videos with the likes of Josh Gad and Seth Rogen, goofing with comedy icons like Paul Scheer & Rachel Bloom in The Muppets Script, and jumping into the wackiest of roles with Quick & Funny Musicals’ revolving door of original musicals at Upright Citizens Brigade or the Elysian each month. You can spot her fiddling on cult favorite Dropout shows Game Changer and Play It By Ear. And you can hear her as a savage high school debate kid on the new star-studded musical comedy album about the NRA, Good Guy with a Gun! (Marnina has also sold her soul to be in some national commercials.)

Marnina is half of beloved musical comedy duo Couplet with their romantic and creative partner, Micah O’Konis. Couplet has quickly grown a fanbase online and in person, touring their award-winning show Honey Honey Moon Moon to New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, and London, and making their Edinburgh Fringe and BBC premiere last year to wide acclaim (“so charming, *****" - Ed Fest Mag, “wild, *****" - Starburst Mag). They are returning to the Fringe this year with their new show Folk Marry Kill at Assembly.

Repped by Landsburg Management, The Park Agency (commercial), and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham LLP.

BWW Review: MORE GUNS! A Musical Comedy About the NRA
by Steve Murray - Feb 3, 2020

San Francisco theatre goers got gypped! Oh, not by this sensationally funny satire on America's gun culture, but by the fact that it only got a limited three-performance run. Running for the past 18 months in LA, a musical comedy that pokes fun at our warped political processes, conservatives and 'woke' liberals is perfect fodder for San Francisco audiences. Three sold put audiences here were treated to a perfect musical comedy- great performances, a compelling story and a fantastic hummable score.

BWW Interview: Philip Labes of MORE GUNS! A MUSICAL COMEDY ABOUT THE NRA at Z Space Brings a Wickedly Funny Slant to a Deadly Serious Topic
by Jim Munson - Jan 10, 2020

You might not be familiar with the name Philip Labes, but there's a good chance you've seen him in guest roles on buzzy TV shows like a?oeWatchmena?? and a?oeGLOWa?? or co-starring with Anthony Rapp and Cheyenne Jackson in the feature film a?oeOpening Night.a?? Or perhaps you've seen his music videos and sketches online. Mr. Labes is clearly a man with a lot of irons on the fire. He also co-wrote (with Michael O'Konis) and stars in the improbably-named a?oeMore Guns! A Musical Comedy about the NRAa?? which is coming to San Francisco's Z Space in late January after running for 18 months at Second City Hollywood. Labes is the sort of young performing arts polymath who is perhaps just that one key role or project away from becoming something of a household name. BroadwayWorld spoke to him recently from his home base in LA. In conversation, he is both joyful about his work process and sanguine about the challenges of forging a successful career in the performing arts.

BWW Review: An Effecting ANNE, A NEW PLAY - A Heroine Humanized
by Gil Kaan - Jun 17, 2019

The U.S. premiere of ANNE, A NEW PLAY receives a sturdy mounting by the Simon Wiesenthal Center, under the strong directing reins of Eve Brandstein. The uniformly talented ensemble present most translucently the re-imagined Anne Frank's Diary of A Young Girl, in the words of playwrights Jessica Durlander & Leon de Winter (translated by Susan Massotty and adapted by Nick Blaemire). Sound designer Derek Christiansen most complementarily heightens the claustrophobic, hovering, impending doom with his ominous footsteps, bombs exploding, and static-ridden radio broadcasts.
