The 2016 Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway were handed out last night to recipients in 18 categories, with two special awards and two honorary awards also bestowed. The Lortel Awards were distributed in a ceremony at NYU Skirball Center hosted by Zachary Levi, star of Broadway's She Loves Me. This year's event was once again a benefit for The Actors Fund. Michael Arden, Kelli Barrett, Bill Berloni, Robert Fairchild, Sutton Foster, Lesli Margherita,  Andrea McArdle, Orfeh, Hugh Panaro, Kate Rockwell, Jarrod Spector and Alysha Umphress all took part in Best in Shows, a star-studded cabaret evening to benefit the Humane Society of New York, at Feinstein's/ 54 Below.  Oscar and Tony Award-winner Joel Grey was awarded the first annual Humane Society of New York's Sandy Award, presented to an artist who has shown a fierce commitment, through action and advocacy, to the cause of animal rights.

Spin!, the outrageously entertaining verbatim reenactment of four recent preposterous sex scandals, begins performances Thursday, September 18 at the Lynn Redgrave Theater at Culture Project (45 Bleecker Street at Lafayette Street), ahead of an official opening on Wednesday, October 1 at 7pm. The cast of Tail! Spin! features Arnie Burton (39 Steps, Peter and the Starcatcher), Rachel Dratch ('Saturday Night Live'), Sean Dugan (Next Fall, 'Smash'), Tom Galantich ('House of Cards')and Nate Smith (UCB, FunnyOrDie.com). Tony honoree/Grammy nominee Milly Shapiro (Matilda in Matilda) joined with triple threat sister Abigail Shapiro (Cindy Lou Who in Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas) for an unstoppable sister act in their premiere of 'The Shapiro Sisters: Live Out Loud!' at 54 Below.
