Faye Chiao

BIO

Faye Chiao is an award-winning composer of concert music, opera, and musical theater. Chiao has been honored with The Presser Music Award from The Presser Foundation, the

Libby Larsen Prize from the International Alliance for Women in Music, and grants
from The Puffin Foundation and OPERA America. An original family musical, Baba
Yaga and the Firebird (book and lyrics by Anton Dudley) is currently in development with New Victory Theater’s Labworks. For the 2017/2018 season, Chiao served as Composer-In-Residence with the Boston Chamber Symphony and St. David’s Episcopal Church in Baltimore. Chiao’s musical, Rhyme & Punishment (book and lyrics by Anton Dudley) was presented by Off-Broadway’s Playwrights Realm and produced by American Dream Theater in Virginia Beach. A ten-minute musical The Clinic (book and lyrics by Anton Dudley) was commissioned and presented by Off-Broadway’s Prospect Theater at the Times Building, NY. Chiao has been commissioned by Houston Grand Opera, Boston Chamber Symphony, Pittsburgh Festival Opera, and Lunar Ensemble. Chiao degrees from The Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University.
