When Green Day's American Idiot arrived on Broadway in 2010, it received a mixed response. When I saw the original Broadway production, I thought the cast was glorious and found the Book, like everyone else, safe; an emotional roller coaster. Furthermore, you have the rocking score of Green Day's Grammy-winning album the musical is based on. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience seeing it on the Great White Way, and I am delighted Oakdale's Noel S. Ruiz Theatre at CM Performing Arts Center (CMPAC) has added it to their current season.

If there ever was a time to see Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, it is now. The strangely uplifting and silly show encourages the viewer to dream. Even if you are sad or down; continue to dream. Don't get me wrong; there are emotional and dramatic moments. However, the overall message thrives.

An Act of God opens this Saturday, February 9th at the Smithtown Performing Arts Center!

This was my experience sitting in the intimate Circle in the Square Theatre, where 'Fun Home' premiered on Broadway in 2015 after an Off-Broadway run in 2013. Oakdale's Noel S. Ruiz Theatre at CM Performing Arts Center (CMPAC) offers a beautiful incarnation of Disney's Beauty and the Beast this holiday season. Some may have called this a tourist trap , but you will find that the story is as relevant as ever. Based on the 1991 Oscar winning animated movie, this production is excellently directed by CMPAC vet Kristen Digilio and runs through December 23rd at the lovely Long Island venue.

Of the many productions that will come and go of the Tony award winning musical Hairspray, the incarnation at the Smithtown Performing Arts Center is incredibly enjoyable. Running through August 28th under the excellent direction of Long Island theatre vet Jordan Hue, the talented cast will leave you singing the Marc Shaiman/Scott Wittman score for weeks. To add, the book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan will indeed stand the test of time as we progress towards full equality at every level.
