BIO
ANDREW RASMUSSEN is an independent director and creative producer based in New York City. He established Cardinal Theatricals, creating immersive stagings of Andrew Lippa's The Wild Party, RENT, The Rocky Horror Show LIVE!, and When a Man Loves a Diva - often staging in unusual production venues: from 1,000 seat former Vaudeville houses to a 6,500 square-foot warehouse. He has created unique concerts, shows and experiences for Grammy Award-Winning Jamecia Bennett and The Sounds of Blackness and was commissioned to create a 125+ person flashmob for the opening week of The Minnesota Twins. His original work with Mrs. Smith (co-writing & directing) has been seen Off-Broadway, American Repertory Theatre, and Berkeley Rep.
Associate/Resident Director: The Honeymooners (World Premiere/Paper Mill), Joseph/Dreamcoat (Tokyo), Annie (Paper Mill Playhouse), Siddhartha the musical (Milan/Edinburgh/Paris), China Goes Pop! (Beijing), as well as Smokey Joe's Cafè, The World Goes 'Round, Shout!, and several original productions for NCL.

Sheen Center for Thought & Culture, the arts center of the Archdiocese of New York, has announced highlights of its 2020 Spring season, a rich mix of theater, film, music, author's nights, gallery exhibitions, and talk events featuring artists and thought leaders including Pulitzer Prize-winning Wall Street Journal columnist and author Peggy Noonan; New York Times columnist and bestselling author David Brooks, and Director of The Philanthropy Roundtable's Character Initiative and author Anne Snyder; Director of the Vatican Observatory and President of the Vatican Observatory Foundation Br. Guy Consolmagno, SJ; a rousing evening of gospel music from Vy Higginsen's Sing Harlem choir; celebrated composer and big bandleader Darcy James Argue plus the New England Conservatory Alumni Big Band; Tony Award nominee Melissa Errico and multi-award winning New Yorker staff writer Adam Gopnik; singer, songwriter, and acclaimed clawhammer banjo player Abigail Washburn and genre-bending composer, guzheng virtuoso and vocalist from Beijing Wu Fei; and events tackling thought-provoking topical themes including justice in underserved communities, the protection of immigrants to America, and the inspiration of Sr. Thea Bowman and other Servants of God.

Yet more theatre lore from the crazy world of Mrs. Smith! Here she recounts her first encounter as a young girl with legendary stage actor John Barrymore. After reading the letter she wrote him, he wisked her off for drinks at Sardi's and then up to Harlem to hear James Baldwin recite poetry - to a bongo beat. Therefore, she is saddened that the theater bearing his name has gone to the dogs. How curious. Check out the video below!
