Oliver Platt

Oliver Platt is an American actor known for his extensive work on stage and screen. Born January 12, 1960, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, he studied drama at Tufts University before working in theater in Boston and touring with Shakespeare and Company. He later performed with the New York Shakespeare Festival, Lincoln Center Theater and Manhattan Theatre Club, among other Off-Broadway and regional companies.

Platt made his film debut in Jonathan Demme's Married to the Mob (1988), following Bill Murray's recommendation of him to the director. His subsequent film credits include Working Girl, Flatliners, Beethoven, Indecent Proposal, Benny & Joon, The Three Musketeers, A Time to Kill, The Impostors, Bulworth, Dr. Dolittle, Lake Placid, Three to Tango, Bicentennial Man, Don't Say a Word, Pieces of April, Kinsey, The Ice Harvest, Casanova, Frost/Nixon, Year One, 2012, Please Give, Love & Other Drugs, X-Men: First Class, The Oranges, Ginger & Rosa, Chef, Kill the Messenger, The 9th Life of Louis Drax, Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, I'm Thinking of Ending Things and Babes. His voice credits include Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya and Wonder Woman.

On television, Platt starred as Wallace Benton in Deadline and earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for his guest role as Oliver Babish on The West Wing. He received two Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe nomination for his performance as Russell Tupper on Huff. His other television credits include Queens Supreme, Nip/Tuck, The Bronx Is Burning, Bored to Death, The Big C, Fargo, The Good Wife, Modern Family and American Experience. He has also portrayed Dr. Daniel Charles across the Chicago franchise, including Chicago P.D., Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago Justice. From 2022 to 2026, he appeared as Uncle Jimmy on The Bear, earning a Primetime Emmy nomination and a Screen Actors Guild Award as part of the series' ensemble.

Platt made his Broadway debut as John in Conor McPherson's Shining City in 2006, earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Play. He returned to Broadway in 2009 as Nathan Detroit in the revival of Guys and Dolls, opposite Lauren Graham.

His honors include the New York Film Critics Online Award for Best Supporting Actor for Casanova and the Independent Spirit Awards' Robert Altman Award for Please Give. He has also received nominations from the Primetime Emmy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, Tony Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Blockbuster Entertainment Awards, Boston Society of Film Critics and St. Louis Gateway Film Critics Association. In 2024, he won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series for The Bear.
