BIKEncerto: a concerto for solo bicycle and orchestra is a composition by Boston-based percussionist and composer Reynaliz Herrera, performed with her ensemble Ideas, Not Theories. The work features the bicycle as a solo instrument accompanied by strings and woodwinds, with each movement highlighting a specific characteristic of the instrument, from tuned tire pressures to melodic fragments drawn from spokes and metallic frame components. Herrera performs as the bicycle percussion soloist, reconciling her classical conservatory training with over a decade of exploring the bicycle as a serious musical instrument. The piece was included in The Boston Globe's "Best of Boston Music" 2023 list and received recognition from the Global Music Awards.
