CONSTANCE HAUMAN
Constance Hauman has had an illustrious career spanning Opera, cabaret, musical theater, and film, having added songwriter, pianist, producer with her debut solo album FALLING INTO NOW, chosen by The Guardian UK as one of the top 10 critics' picks for the best pop albums of 2015. Her 4th solo album TROPICAL THUNDERSTORM was featured on NPR's 'Play It Forward' in 2021 and 2022. Her QUARANTINE TRILOGY received critical acclaim for Hauman's ambient jazz piano with drummer and her long standing co-producer Ross Pederson. Their album HIGH TIDES in 2019 marked a 2nd album of original songs and arrangements, charting on Adult contemporary radio. As the keyboardist, musical director and producer for the indie funk rock bands Miss Velvet and The Blue Wolf and Blu Eye Extinction, she continues to tour worldwide with George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, receiving a 2025 Grammy Producing Nomination for George Clinton's Audible book, ...And Your Ass Will Follow. Holding many credits and awards in the Classical music world, Constance made her Vienna Statsoper debut in 2019 in Olga Neuwirth's ORLANDO in a cast that included Justin Vivian Bond. She is acclaimed for her historic live recording in the title role of Alban Berg's LULU (Chandos), as Alice/Renee on the award winning recording of Olga Neuwirth's groundbreaking Opera, LOST HIGHWAY (Kairos), as Kate Pinkerton in the Frederick Mitterand film MADAME BUTTERFLY (Sony classics) and received an LA Drama Desk nomination for her portrayal of Florence Foster Jenkins in SOUVENIR, A FANTASIA ON FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS. Her one woman show EXILES IN PARADISE, opened the Liebeskind Jewish Museum in Berlin on Sept. 10 2001. Constance was handpicked by Leonard Bernstein in 1989 to replace an ailing June Anderson in the role of Cunegonde in his CANDIDE with the London Symphony Orchestra. Though she has performed over 75 roles and 2500 performances in the world's opera houses and concert stages, her self-discovery into songwriting, composing and producing lit a passion for mentoring and developing new talent which led to the creation of her multi genre record label ISOTOPIA RECORDS.
"Always a risk taker, Hauman’s song stories feel in the moment and personal, especially in “Dark Angel,” a composition in which the lyric “You’re not welcome anymore” offers a gut-piercing honesty. Her songs, fusing opera with funk, may seem an odd combination, but due to the profound authenticity she provides, it’s a gimmick-free approach organic in nature and orgasmic in execution."
