ShakesBEER heads to Brooklyn on September 19 & 26

New York, New York — New York Shakespeare Exchange (NYSX) has announced that their next round of ShakesBEER, NYC’s Original Shakespearean Pub Crawl, will play in the Park Slope/South Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn for two consecutive Saturday performances, on September 19th and 26th. Last performed in Sunnyside, Queens this past spring, ShakesBEER has been a beloved mainstay of NYSX programming since 2011. This first full crawl in Brooklyn is part of a larger shift for the company as they look to expand the reach of their events and programs across more neighborhoods throughout all five boroughs of NYC.

The event kicks off at Prospect Bar and Grill (545 5th Avenue), before traveling on to The Monro Pub (481 5th Avenue), Logan’s Run (375a 5th Avenue), and The Dram Shop Bar (339 9th Street). Patrons can choose from three ticketing tiers: Admission only ($35), admission plus 2 drink tickets ($52), and admission plus 4 drink tickets ($65). Drink tickets are redeemable for beer (including n/a options), wine, and select cocktails and mocktails at the participating bars. Check-in begins at 2:30pm at Prospect Bar and Grill for the 3pm kickoff. Each stop lasts 45 minutes, with a Shakespeare scene breaking out at roughly the midway point of each stop. The crawl concludes at 6pm.

Booking in advance is strongly recommended; any tickets still available by check-in time on performance days will be available for purchase with cash or Zelle only.

The ShakesBEER experience has been described by performers and attendees as what it might be like to see Shakespeare performed from INSIDE the Groundlings’ pit. An ensemble of actors brings a different comedic scene to life at each bar, creating an immersive and joyful experience for the audience, some of whom might find themselves shoulder-to-shoulder with Juliet, Rosalind, or Falstaff!

The featured actors include Logan Dean (Father Anonymous, AMT Theatre), Elizabeth Dye (Steel Magnolias, PlayMakers Repertory Company), Stephanie LaVardera (Romeo and Juliet, Folger Shakespeare Theatre), Sam Leichter (Much Ado About Nothing, New York Shakespeare Exchange), Heaven Nikitenko (Our Own Odyssey, Sound Bites 13 Festival/Theatre Now), Kelli Ruttle (Bill W. & Dr. Bob, SoHo Playhouse), and Michael Shattner (Island, New York Shakespeare Exchange). Martavius Parrish (Into the Woods, Broadway & Limited Engagement Tour) and Pearl Rhein (Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, Imperial Theatre/Broadway) will each direct two of the four scenes.

The crawl is produced by Artistic Director Cristina Lundy, with assistance from Monica Bell and Sarah Kinsey.

ShakesBEER is being presented as a fundraiser in cooperation with The Theatre Authority.
