Virginia Stage Company, Norfolk State University And Booker T. Washington High School To Present MAAFA

Thanks to a grant from Virginia Humanities, Norfolk State University, Virginia  Stage Company Public Works, New Calvary Baptist Church, and Norfolk Public Schools, Public Works Artist and NSU Social Work Assistant Professor Jason Sawyer, in partnership with Theatre Arts Director, Kimberly Ambrose, and theatre students from Booker T. Washington High School's Academy of Visual and Performing Arts explore ideas of community, housing, gentrification, and what makes a home in response to current local community conditions in Hampton Roads. The episodes will be presented alongside New Calvary Baptist Church's MAAFA - the story of the black experience in America from the middle passage to modern times.

Innsbrook After Hours announced that Aaron Lewis will perform June 24th at the SERVPRO of Richmond Pavilion, Get The Led Out will perform on August 6th, and Train will perform August 14th. Opera On The James Presents Rossini's THE BARBER OF SEVILLE

Opera On The James presents a new production of Gioachino Rossini's comic masterpiece, Barber of Seville. Marco Nistico, the company's General Director, announced that tickets are now available for performances at 7pm on March 27th and 2pm on March 29th. The production will take place at the Historic Academy Theatre in downtown Lynchburg.

Reston Community Players continues its 53rd season with The Diary of Anne Frank, an impassioned drama about the lives of eight people hiding from the Nazis in a concealed storage attic. Based on a true story, Anne Frank tells the story of the two-year ordeal through the writings of the title character, whose optimism in the midst of a dark existence has served as a guide for generations. The Diary of Anne Frank runs February 28-March 14 at the Reston Community Center.

Last season, Heritage Theatre Festival kicked off its season and transported audiences back to a magical night in Memphis in 1956 with Million Dollar Quartet, which became the hottest selling show in Heritage history. For this year's opener, the scene shifts to the gritty underbelly of New York City, where some of the most beloved characters in the history of musical theatre roll the dice on life and love in the Tony-award winning Frank Loesser classic Guys and Dolls.
Virginia Stage Company to Receive $20,000 Art Works Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts

Virginia Stage Company has been approved for a $20,000 Art Works grant to support a world premiere theater production by Ronve O'Daniel and Jevaris Myrick, co-creators of contemporary hip-hop musical Once Upon A Rhyme: A Musical Tale.  Mr. O'Daniel and Mr. Myrick will write a hip-hop musical that will serve as both education and a celebration of the unique history of the Hampton Roads community.  This theater production is created through the Public Works Virginia (PWVA) program, which leverages the artistic process for individual and community transformation. Overall, the National Endowment for the Arts has approved 1,187 grants totaling $27.3 million in the first round of fiscal year 2020 funding to support arts projects in every state in the nation, as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

This Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning drama will be presented at Virginia Rep's November Theatre (114 West Broad Street) beginning February 7th, 2020 with two preview performances on Wednesday, February 5th and Thursday, February 6th. August Wilson's powerful masterwork will be onstage through March 1st. Fences is presented as part of the Acts of Faith Festival. 
RCT: Professional Theatre for Schools & Families Will Tackle Internet Safety and Addiction with THE FAKES

A pressing concern in our nation is internet bullying and the need for internet safety. 77% of the targets for online predators are ages 14 or older. Another 22% are users ages 10 to 13 (from Your Internet Safety Survey). RCT: Professional Theatre for Schools & Families aims to shed light on this issue and offer strategies for safety through their upcoming production of THE FAKES. This production is part of the RCT4TEENS series, with public performances of THE FAKES being held on February 27 and 28, 2020. Performances will be held at the Jefferson Center Black Box Theatre/Fostek Hall (541 Luck Avenue SW).
