• Following a string of awe-inspiring Live in HD performances where she was praised for her “towering” (Financial Times) and “nearly supernatural” (The New York Times) turns in Verdi’s La Forza del Destino and Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier and Ariadne auf Naxos, Norwegian soprano Lise Davidsen stars in the title role for her first time at the Met. Davidsen will also star in the Fidelio transmission on March 15.
• David McVicar’s thrilling production returns, with its towering
recreations of three iconic Roman landmarks: the Church
Sant’Andrea della Valle, the Palazzo Farnese, and the Castel
Sant’Angelo.
• Joining the distinguished cast is tenor Freddie De Tommaso in his company debut as Tosca’s revolutionary lover, Cavardossi, and baritone Quinn Kelsey as the sadistic chief of police Scarpia.
• Maestro Xian Zhang conducts the electrifying score, which features some of Puccini’s most memorable melodies, from the tenor’s soaring arias “Recondita armonia” and “E lucevan le stelle” to the thunderous choral Te Deum to the soprano’s instantly recognizable and utterly heartbreaking “Vissi d’arte.”
