• Following her critically acclaimed performance in Bizet’s Carmen (2024), mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina returns to the Met to headline Bartlett Sher’s madcap production of Rossini’s effervescent comedy as the feisty heroine Rosina.
• The cast also includes high-flying tenor Jack Swanson, in his Met debut, as Rosina’s secret beloved, Count Almaviva. Baritone Andrey Zhilikhovsky stars as Figaro, the titular barber of Seville, with bass-baritone Peter Kálmán as Dr. Bartolo and bass Alexander Vinogradov as Don Basilio rounding out the principal cast. Giacomo Sagripanti conducts.
• Regarded as perhaps the greatest comedy in all of opera, Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia features solos of astounding speed in tongue twisting patter forms, especially the title role’s well-known Act I showstopper, “Largo al factotum.”
