Minnetonka Theatre Celebrates 10th Year Anniversary With 6/16 Gala

Minnetonka Theatre will welcome back alumni cast members from past shows to celebrate the theatre's 10 Year anniversary of producing shows under artistic director R. Kent Knutson. The Gala Concert, Raise the Curtain, will reunite some of the theatre's greatest casts from shows including Les Miserables, Phantom, Legally Blonde, Hello, Dolly, Annie Get Your Gun, and many more. The best and the brightest stars of past productions will sing to celebrate 10 years of great theatre.

Fresh Ink, Illusion's annual summer series focusing on new scripts, gives space for artists to develop their creative pieces and try their works-in-progress in front of audiences. For three weekends in July, emerging and established playwrights explore new ground, with a different play on stage each weekend. Now in its 25th year, Fresh Ink has presented more than 120 plays, with many going on to become full-length productions.

Raye Birk & Peter Michael Goetz to Lead Guthrie's SUNSHINE BOYS

The Guthrie Theater today announced the full cast and creative team for The Sunshine Boys-acclaimed Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and screenwriter Neil Simon's sidesplitting comedy. Directed by Gary Gisselman (A Christmas Carol, Lost in Yonkers), The Sunshine Boys will feature Guthrie favorites Raye Birk (Faith Healer, Third) and Peter Michael Goetz (1776, The Government Inspector) as Al Lewis and Willie Clark, respectively, a pair of crabby, retired vaudeville comedians persuaded to reunite after 11 years apart - despite the fact that they hate each other. When these seasoned stage partners are convinced to reunite for a CBS television comedy special, hilarity ensues. The New York Times called The Sunshine Boys "an evening that keeps you laughing and then leaves you surprisingly moved." The production also features a special cameo from renowned improvisational comedian and Brave New Workshop founder Dudley Riggs as Sketch Patient.

Chanhassen Dinner Theatres announced its exclusive arrangement to produce the Midwest Premiere of XANADU on the Main Stage. XANADU was named "Outstanding New Musical" for the 2008 Broadway season by the Outer Critics Circle. Chanhassen's XANADU will open to one week of preview performances from tonight, June 1 - 7, with an official Opening Night on Friday, June 8.

Hennepin Theatre Trust presents the new theatrical event Standing On Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays, running tonight, May 31-June 16, 2012 at the New Century Theatre. Showcasing funny, heartfelt "mini works" that celebrate the courage to be in a relationship-any relationship, Standing On Ceremony's smart and witty vignettes were penned by playwrights whose credits include two Pulitzer Prizes, four Obies, one Emmy and three Tony nominations. Wendy Knox of Frank Theatre will direct a stellar cast of six Twin Cities actors including Laura Adams, Shawn Hamilton Brown, Aimee K. Bryant, Jim Lichtscheidl and Mark Rhein, with one more actor to be announced soon. With this production, the Trust is working in cooperation with Minnesotans United for All Families, the official statewide campaign working to defeat the constitutional amendment that would exclude gays and lesbians from marriage in Minnesota.

This Bloomington Civic Theatre (BCT) production will run August 17 - September 16, 2012. 42nd Street will be directed and choreographed by Michael Matthew Ferrell, with music direction by Anita Ruth.
