New York Producer Rod Kaats Named Artistic Director at Ordway

The Ordway Center for Performing Arts announced today that producer and director Rod Kaats will assume the position of Producing Artistic Director beginning February 1, 2018. Mr. Kaats succeeds James A. Rocco, who stepped down from the Ordway last year.

Minnesota Orchestra President and CEO Kevin Smith, in partnership with Classical Movements, announced today that Music Director Osmo V nsk and the Minnesota Orchestra will embark on a five-city tour to South Africa this summer the first visit by a professional U.S. orchestra to the country and offer a specially-themed Sommerfest in 2018, all in connection with a worldwide celebration of the late Nobel Peace Prize-winning South African leader and human rights advocate Nelson Mandela on the centenary of his birth.
Park Square Hits The High Seas With THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE

Park Square continues its 43rd season on the Proscenium Stage with a new adaptation of Gilbert & Sullivan's operatic romp The Pirates of Penzance. Inspired by a true story, director Doug Scholz-Carlson has reimagined the perennial favorite that puts the composer themselves smack in the middle of their own farce. The pair's lush score includes some of their most famous songs, including I am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General and Poor Wand'ring One. The production stars local favorites Bradley Greenwald* as the Pirate King and Christina Baldwin* as the Major General.
Prince's Paisley Park Announces 'PRINCE: Live on the Big Screen'

Prince's Paisley Park in Chanhassen, Minnesota has announced a special concert event titled PRINCE: Live on the Big Screen to be held April 21 at 8PM at Target Center. The concert will feature newly remastered and never-before-released audio and video of Prince accompanied live on the Target Center stage by a super-group of musicians who performed alongside Prince throughout his legendary career.
CTC Tours SEEDFOLKS To New York, Nebraska and Greater Minnesota

Children's Theatre Company (CTC) will bring its production of Seedfolks on a three-month tour to eight cities across Minnesota, Omaha (The Rose Theater) and Lincoln (Lied Center for Performing Arts), Nebraska and to The New Victory Theater, New York. The organization received significant tour support from the Minnesota State Arts Board's Arts Tour Minnesota grant to bring Seedfolks to nine theatres across Minnesota including the Memorial Auditorium Performing Arts Center (Worthington), Myles Reif Performing Arts Center (Grand Rapids), Fairmont Opera House (Fairmont), Historic Holmes Theatre (Detroit Lakes), Sheldon Theatre of Performing Arts (Red Wing), Backus Community Center (International Falls), Central Lakes Community Performing Arts Center (Brainerd) and Memorial Auditorium (Dawson) in the spring of 2018. The ninth supported site was Theatre L'Homme Dieu in Alexandria in summer 2017. CTC recently brought this production of Seedfolks to the prestigious ASSITEJ International (International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People) 2017 World Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.

Prior Lake Players Community Theatre Will Hold Open Auditions For ANNIE

Prior Lake Players Community Theatre (PLP) will be holding open auditions for our Spring 2018 production of 'ANNIE' on Monday, February 5, and Wednesday, February 7, at Twin Oaks Middle School (15860 Fish Point Road SE, Prior Lake). The classic musical will be directed by Mike Wartman along with assistant director Sheri Brunner, music director Melissa Cummings, and vocal director Terri Thomas.

CTC's Production Of THE GRINCH Is Highest Grossing Show, Will Return Next Year

Children's Theatre Company (CTC) announced today that their production of Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas is the highest grossing show in the organization's 52-year history, playing to 99.8% capacity for 87 performances in the 747-seat theatre. Due to the overwhelming response, CTC has announced ahead of the full 2018-2019 season announcement, that The Grinch will return and be the holiday show for the 2018-2019 season, starring Reed Sigmund in the role of the Grinch for a fourth time.

The Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) is collaborating with celebrated theatre director and visual artist Robert Wilson to organize a first-of-its-kind exhibition highlighting the drama, rituals, and opulence of the Qing Empire, the last imperial dynasty of China. The exhibition will present objects from Mia's renowned collection of Chinese art, including rare court costumes, jades, lacquers, bronzes, gold ornaments, paintings, and sculpture, displayed in an immersive, experiential environment conceived of by Wilson. 'Power and Beauty in China's Last Dynasty: Concept and Design by Robert Wilson, presented by Sit Investment Associates, is curated by Liu Yang, Mia's Curator of Chinese Art, and will be on view February 4 through May 27, 2018.
