RENT School Edition Coming to StarStruck Theatre in Stuart, 4/20-29

Building on the success of the first Professional Series in its new, state-of-the-art facility, StarStruck Theatre announces its upcoming Student Series production of RENT: School Edition. Music Theatre International (MTI) granted StarStruck the privilege of producing the World Premiere of RENT: School Edition in 2007, and now the musical that changed Broadway is coming back to the Treasure Coast. It will play StarStruck Theatre April 20-29.

The Emerging Artists Showcase is a unique partnership between a professional, regional theater and a secondary school theatre program. Its purpose is to present selected graduates from the AW Dreyfoos School of Arts Theatre Program to the South Florida theatre/film community. The showcase is directed by Kenneth Kay (a Carbonell award-winning director and former Producing Artistic Director of the Blowing Rock Stage Company, North Carolina) in collaboration with Beverly Blanchette (Dreyfoos Theatre Dean/Acting Director) and Bruce Linser (Dreyfoos Music Theatre Director). The showcase includes songs, scenes, and monologues from popular, contemporary plays/musicals along with original works.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning play A Streetcar Named Desire follows the story of Blanche DuBois, a weak and disturbed woman on a desperate prowl for some place in the world to call her own. After losing their ancestral home, Belle Reve, Blanche shows up at the doorstep of her sister, Stella, in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Putting on airs of refinement and Southern gentility, Blanche tries to impress her brother-in-law, and his gentle, good-natured friend, Mitch. Seeking to escape from reality, and an emblem of a lost traditional South, Blanche becomes a victim of the harsh present. Marlon Brando starred in the Broadway production and the 4-time Academy Award-winning film adaptation. This will mark the 65th Anniversary of this enduring Tennessee Williams classic.

Asolo Repertory Announces Programming and Events for HAMLET, PRINCE OF CUBA

Asolo Repertory is presents events leading up the Spanish performances of Hamlet, Prince of Cuba. Set in late 19th century Cuba, the show is currently enjoying a run in English at Asolo Rep and will have two performances in Spanish with English supertitles on May 3 at 8 p.m. and May 5 at 2 p.m. After concluding its run in Sarasota, the show will move to the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center in Miami where there will be both English and supertitled Spanish performances May 11-13. Hamlet, Prince of Cuba features guest artist Frankie J. Alvarez as Hamlet, Gisela Chipe (of Asolo Rep's Yentl) as Ophelia, Emilio Delgado as Claudius (known for his role as Luis on Sesame Street), Mercedes Herrero as Gertrude and Andhy Mendez as Laertes. The following programming will be offered in conjunction with the production.
